Have the requirements for the WCML enhancement changed? In terms of what DLC I must have?
Reason I'm asking is because I'm getting a crash everytime I try to launch it. I have the updated timetable and everything. I pretty much have all the requirements that worked on the previous one

That would suggest you’re missing ECML

If you don't have ECML installed, don't use the 805 that requires it. Or it will crash you.

I hate to say it. Instructions are there for precisely these reasons.

Edit. Just realised this thread is for wcml over Shap!

How? You don't own ecml so the 805 won't find its parent class 801.
As Fawx said. Remove the 805.

In what way did it work? You certainly weren't able to spawn the 805 if you didn't have ECML installed. It's physically not possible as the 805 is a child variant of the 801. Without the 801 there isn't a model to use.

it worked in the sense that the game didn't crash and it showed up too. i guess something must've changed with the most recent update.

it did work then. i don't k now how but it did. there must have been a change in the last update why it doesn't work now. believe what you want but i'm telling it like it is. it did work then. but like i said something changed so that's it

    Sorry, been busy.

It’s simple mate, the 805 requires the 801 to work. If you don’t own the 801 it is literally impossible for the 805 to have shown up in your game. In fact, not literally impossible, just totally impossible.

if you say so. all i know is the last time it did show up for me. that was before this last update. if the last update now requires i have it, fine. no more argument from me about it. just that it worked the last time, but since this update now requires it's mandatory to have it, i can deal with that. i just don't appreciate the fact that some people are questioning whether it did work for me or not when i didn't have it when i know it did.

That literally isn’t possible though. There’s just no way that unit can have shown in the game if you don’t own ECML. The game has nothing to reference, nor is there an actual model to load.

Hi JetWash, Could you explain a little bit about the pre-sets: Ultra, High, Medium and low? Like what they mean?

for example, Does ultra push the lighting very hard and might cause performance issue while low set it mildly?

You might have said that somewhere, but the thread is so long, sorry.

Instead of asking the poor guy to repeat himself ad nauseam may I suggest a couple of things….1, read the thread to see if the question you’re asking has been answered or 2, try the presets and see how it affects performance of your particular set-up

In a nutshell the lighting is largely the same across all pre-sets, the rest is down to graphic enhancements. It is literally drag and drop so just experiment with what works best for your hardware. Always bear in mind that all the ‘Low’ preset contains are the lighting changes only. That will give you exactly the same performance as the default game.

Just did a run on a sunny day and i am still completely blown on how good the lighting and shadows are. Its really close to what you would get when you play something like Forza Horizon
There is some motion blur in effect but boy oh boy this looks so sweet.

Not quite, the only description I found is:
This is a set of changes to the game’s graphics to balance the visuals (making the scene look more naturally lit) and where possible, improve the graphical fidelity of the game.
Utill he explained "lighting is largely the same across all pre-sets, the rest is down to graphic enhancements", actually for a newbie like me really didn't notice where the imporvements are, changes could be subtle.
and to JetWash, sorry for the trouble, I don't mean to judge you, you are doing a great job, appreciate your help

Thanks, the changes aren’t subtle though. If you compare the default light directly against my edited lighting the difference is massive.

The only way to see that is to apply the ini to the default game manually and you see the transformation.

Just got a new laptop to replace my aging 5 year old one. New one is a Lenovo Legion with i9-14900HX, 32GB RAM and RTX 4070 8GB card.

I am running the game at 2560x1440 and have everything at their highest settings except sky at high.

I've gone for the High version of this mod and all seems fine except on Shap route when i get really low frame rates around Carlisle station (sometimes dropping to around 10fps).

I've tried with and without the lossless scaling app and if anything it performs better without it (Keeps locking up and freezing with it running) and I have the -DX12 set in the start up settings for the game.

Anyway apologies if this has been asked somewhere in the previous pages but is there a list of what all the settings in each route's .ini does so I can maybe change something just for the Shap route? Rather than changing all the routes etc.....

If you open the lower presets using notepad++ (which is a free download) you can simply cut and paste a lower preset for that specific route. Not sure why you’re getting those drops, but Lossless Scaling will be struggling because you’re not maintaining a stable framerate.

I know this mod's been out for a while now, but couldn't help be impressed how good Bremen - Oldenburg looked in winter. Wow!

Yes I've downloaded the High and Medium versions and have copied the entries for Shap from the medium version into the High version so that all routes except Shap are running the High settings with Shap running Medium and the issues seem to have stopped.

Now that the frame rate issues are better I may go back and use the Lossless Scaling app again to see how it behaves.

What lines in the .ini file control the white washing of the sky? Specifically the two Metrolink routes. I have found that the overexposed/white washed sky is way too extreme, sometimes to the point where you can’t even see blue sky, especially in the early morning hours. It’s almost completely white and way too bright. I have already adjusted sun intensity and skylight intensity but there’s still this white washed sky affect. What line will adjust this?

Hi. I’m not sure what you’re talking about to be honest as I haven’t seen that myself.

Can you give me the preset you’re using, the route, service, date and weather setting you’ve seen this on and I’ll take a look. A screenshot of what the issue is might be useful as well if you’re able. Thanks.

Are you using HDR? That will mess things up royally if so.

v1.5 is available on TSC and includes some changes that should improve the smoothness of the game. The manual has been updated and must be read for you to do what is necessary.

TSW 5 | Lighting & Visual Quality Enhancement - Train Sim Community

    The change-log is below;

    v1.5

    • Added preset(s) for Mannheim - Kaiserslautern
    • I have reverted back to the stock Ambient Occlusion (AO) rather than GTAO. Although the latter looks better (which was why it was included in the first place) I had noticed occasionally there was some banding or certain shadows, most noticably straight lines on certain clouds. Reverting back to normal AO has removed that issue and lighting has been adjusted to compensate for the change
    • I have, with input from dbrunner (who had done his own work on this), been working on ways to reduce the stuttering that seems to be more prevalent in TSW5. I have removed lines relating to texture streaming etc from the individual route ini's and replaced them with some settings that need to go into your main engine.ini, just as you already do. As was the case many moons ago which settings you use depend on how much VRAM your GPU (graphics card) has but I've provided 3 or 4 versions that should cover everyone. It is a one time drag 'n' drop and my experience is that the game now runs much smoother, hopefully yours will be the same. Please see the updated manual for the relevant information
    • Renamed the 'low' preset to 'lighting changes only' to clear up any confusion
    • Removed the pre-TSW5 changlog .txt document
    • This mod is no longer TSW4 compatible as upgrading to TSW5 was free. If you didn't take the opportunity so be it, but this mod no longer gets support for TSW4

Hopefully you can see what I mean in these two shots, especially the second one. There's just this white haze going on and like I said, it's really bad during sunrise. Like its way overexposed.

Ultra preset, Metrolink Antelope Valley (SBD Line is the same because I use the same ini on it as AVL) free roam service, 02/03/25 08:25:12, custom weather with partly cloudy skies but mostly clear. HDR should be off. I don't believe I have ever turned it on.

I have to be honest, that looks realistic to me. Obviously in the real world you would be wearing sunglasses when staring at the sun like that but I’ve seen plenty of sunrises that look just like that.

There is no ini change that I’m aware of that could change that anyway, nothing in this mod has changed the colour of the sky or the exposure of the sun.

Congrats for the new release JetWash. I was wondering when the new version will be up although you did spoil me with a beta test one previously :).
Graphics are top notch, just getting those long shadows during sunrise or sunset and its just AAA experience. Also love the light and the way it naturally reacts based on cloud formation or time of day. TSW is absolute gorgeous with this mod.
Also performance is extremely good, stutter severely reduced even when TSW is running on a HDD (1 TB SSD occupied with two MSFS versions :D ) I also believe that now there is shader compilation right at the start of a new route. I have noticed some pauses lasting seconds but far less or no stuttering afterwards even on fresh routes. Might be just me but its worth testing this .
Moving all the streaming optimization settings to the engine.ini was the the best way to go so you don't have to copy paste them trough all the route presets all the time . Also the Instructions manual is straight forward, and all the performance presets explained so anyone can take the appropriate setting based on they VRAM of the graphic card they own and just enjoy the game with top notch graphics and far less or at least reduces stutter.

Congrats again JetWash , see you again at your next release when Mittenwaldbahn comes :)

dbrunner#4864 I was just coming here to tag you to say thanks too. Those are largely your settings, adapted to fit with the ‘mission’ of the mod and it wouldn’t work without them. So thanks.

FWIW I’ve driven Frankfurt - Fulda end to end twice today. The first time I experienced pauses and hitching which was clearly the shaders compiling (I hadn’t driven it forever and have installed at least 3 driver updates since I last did), occasionally these lasted a second or more. Inbetween the running was smooth. The second time through though was faultless, absolutely butter smooth for 50 odd minutes straight on a route that is punchy to say the least. It looked fantastic. It seems to be using VRAM much more efficiently, and more of what is available.

I’m very happy with it, the look and the performance. I’m happy to take feedback still if necessary though.

Hey, it was an absolute pleasure and a blast to help you get the best out of the available tweaks. Count me anytime you have more ideas or questions :)
Definitely Frankfurt Fulda is one of the most demanding routes out there when it comes to tile loading and stutter. I think that everything from the number of tracks to high quantity of high quality objects per tile will results in much more stress on the streaming engine. This also applied to WCML especially with the awesome route and timetable changes you guys did. I do agree that having some decent memory pool settings will improve the experience and also prevent crashes when you ran out of video memory.

No further advice from me other than never stop doing what you do :)

Just wanted to say how amazing this version is. It’s easily the best one yet! I feel like I say that after each new version but I think it’s just because they get better and better and improved upon with each update/version. Silky smooth performance and even after clearing the cache and performing a first run over a route, it’s still insanely smooth. Before you would see minor stuttering as it reloads the shaders but not anymore. Really amazing work JetWash! Thank you for this contribution to the community and continuing the work with it. This mod/enhancement is a must have for me now for how drastically it changes the performance and TSW experience!

Thanks mate. I’ve also been looking to see if I could do anything to improve your skies issue.

On the routes you’re not happy with, could you try playing around with the auto exposure bias? It’s set to -0.8 on all routes. If you set it back to 0 (the default number) everything is painfully bright, but I’d say there’s scope to adjust it to something between -0.6 and -1.1.

Have a play about and see if you can get it more to your liking.

Sure, I’ll take a look at that and see what I can come up with. This helps cause I was wondering if there was a line in the ini that might adjust something like that. Like I said, I’ll play around with it.

I can’t say for sure if it’s going to help but it’s the closest I can get

This fatal error has been coming up a few times since updating to this latest version. That’s the only issue I’ve seen really. Sending the report in is beyond useless. Any idea what would be causing an increase in this crash? I realize it may not be related to the mod but doesn’t hurt to ask.

Do you by chance in the steam start up commands use "useallavaileblecores" and "high"?
I had the same issue and removing these lines fixed it.

I don’t know what’s crashing it but I very highly doubt it’s the mod I don’t think. These ntdll crashes have become a bit of a ‘thing’ recently. Had you updated your Graphics driver by any chance? Nvidia have released a hotfix driver (572.24) recently because the previous was causing a crash

I am still seeing 572.16 as dl option and would guess this is the 'buggy' one. Will hold off updating until the new one moves from hotfix to regular.
