When watching the TSW preview stream it was encouraging to hear Matt acknowledge Proton. For those not familiar Proton is what Steam Play uses to run unmodified Windows games on their own platform, and other Linux systems. As a Mac user I think that overall I prefer having a separate PC just for Train Simulator and TSW, but unfortunately there is a problem; I and many others have high performance PC's that give excellent performance and high quality graphics and Microsoft want us to turn these systems into eWaste. In less than a year now we will be forced to either buy a new PC to replace the high performance one we already have, purchases a subscription to Windows 10, run Windows 11 unofficially and hope we don't run into trouble, or alternatively as I would like to try, move to a Linux desktop system and use Steam Play (Proton). From what I've seen there are already many TSW and TSC players successfully running on Linux negating the need for porting the games. I was thinking that perhaps we could have a dedicated Steam Play forum here to share experiences and solutions to problems, and also have beta testers running on Linux with Steam Play. I personally would like to support an environmentally less damaging way to enjoy train simulator and would definitely join any Steam Play beta if it became an option.
