This isn't in the suggestion forum because it's more of a curiosity I ran across when looking for something else. In the TSW 4 release news for Steam, they mentioned that about 50% of TSW players downloaded in English, 21% in German and 9% in Chinese. https://gamesensor.info/news/train_sim_world_4_sales_first_week_on_steam I see a ton of English based content (UK/USA routes) I see lots of German stuff. Those make sense. Given the dozens of DLCs at this point, shouldn't we be seeing a Chinese route? Statistically that would make sense. I'm guessing it's based on access issues, but just thought I'd toss it out there. It was an interesting fact.
I guess they have to have higher resolution Lidar data inorder to create the route which does not offered from Chinese map source
Licensing could also be an issue with access to Chinese Railways for research and other data. Not sure how closely if at all the builders of the Chinese routes and rolling equipment looked at that side of things or just went ahead and built/released regardless.
Licensing and lack of 3rd parties would be the main roadblocks. Dtg is unable to know all the countries in detail inside and out so that's where 3rd parties come in
There are Chinese routes in TS. They're published by JustTrains but not developed by them. I can't remember the name of them. From my experience, they're not very good.
At least some were done by Union Workshop but as you say the routes and trains aren’t very good, look as if it was all cobbled together based on research from Google etc. So a good chance they played fast and loose as regards licensing. DTG can’t (or won’t) do that. And AFAIR one of the routes is fictional.
The Guiguang High Speed Railway: Guilin - Hezhou and Shanghai Maglev were the exceptions, yes. Both are pretty bland, very few assets repeated over and over. Quickly built stuff.
I know one of the routes had this very loud female voice shouting at regular intervals, presumably in Chinese, especially getting close to the speed limit. Mrs Vern definitely shouted upstairs, “Turn that bloody racket down” for that one. Then again, she also shouted up the other evening when I was having a slaying frenzy in Skyrim. Ah, some women just don’t appreciate the finer points of gaming. All I wanted was the Headsman’s axe, but set the whole town against me!
