If you really look from the very first route Sandpatch, released in beta to the public in December 2016 to the more recent release of the Class 20 in June 2020. The content for TSW undoubtedly increased in quality as DTG learned from each project and used that experience for future routes and locomotives. TSW2 to me is going to be a new chapter that utilizes all of the knowledge built from 4 years of developing TSW content. A strong foundation for DTG to build upon plays an important role to our experience, and the TSW foundation was not very sturdy and I can understand why it was so hard to add bug fixes and changes over time to an older route when the techniques used now are much more efficient. I imagine it like a famous author going back to his first book, I’m certain he couldn’t understand some of the choices he made when writing it. From all the information on TSW2, it seems to address these issues that plagued not only the game but the community as well in TSW. I highly suggest watching the Köln Q&A stream, as DTG are listening to the community and answering important questions such as what we can expect for post launch updates such as bug fixes and acknowledging where they have gone wrong with TSW and giving us in my opinion 100% genuine answers. I have enjoyed TSW very much and I am very much looking forward to paying $30 for TSW2 and being able to enjoy more content as it grows.
This post appears to be a duplicate of another post in another thread..... Anyway - I actually agree with most of what you have said (except the bit about bug-fixing.... which isn't difficult). I am not sure that you know many authors.... It takes quite a lot of considered work to write a book... and authors really do tend to know why they have wriiten what they have written.... Anyway - I am responding to the proposal in your thread title: "TSW2 should take the place of TSW". I agree with you. But this would (presumably) mean taking down all of the back cataologue DLC for TSW2020, and refusing to sell it to anyone that doesn't want to buy TSW2 (as it currently stands). The price of TSW2 would have to be sliced to nearly nothing, as it would become the sole pre-requisite for purchasing TSW/TSW2 DLCs... as there are a large chunk of customers that don't want the routes that come with the launch of TSW2. TSW2 would become an extra "entry fee" with unwanted content - for a lot of customers. This doesn't affect me - as I am very happy to buy TSW2 on PS4 and on PC. I personally expect the package to be very worthwhile (I like all of the routes)... and I am very happy to see Sand Patch come to PS4 (even though I already have it on PC). With the Scenario Planner added - now reportedly granting QuickDrive to all locos on all routes.... to me buying TSW2 (and paying for it twice) is a no-brainer. I will personally get the value out of it with the Livery Editor alone (assuming that it works well and is well stocked with default decals). There is a third way.... Since DTG are supposedly converting all*** of the existing TSW DLC into TSW2..... there is really no obvious reason (to me) why they couldn't make TSW2 a completely free download.... but.... minus the three packaged route DLCs..... And if the "core" requires some sort of route attached to it to function... then why not throw in a TestTrak....... By giving TSW2 out for free as an upgrade to replace TSW, this would immediately remove the criticism around "making people pay again for the game". ------------------------------------------ ***EDITED TO ADD: Although apparently there might be some exceptions..... (like NEC, mayhaps)
