I got TSW2 currently installed with hand full of routes like (GWR, East Coastway, Brighton commuter..etc) and I am considering to get TSW 3 on next sale (Whenever that is). My question is will my current routes be compatible with TSW3 (That is what happened when I upgraded to TSW 2 from TSW). Also what are significant differences between TSW2 and TSW3? Any thoughts/Comments?
You will need to download the TSW3 versions of all the routes you own, but all your TSW2 DLC licences transfer over to TSW3
I believe there is a decent sale for the deluxe version of tsw3 on now? At there is on Xbox (plus other platforms?) for 23.99 which gets you the 3 TSW3 release routes, SOS and the loco bundle add on. Very good price imo if you dont already have them
Main differences are Dynamic Weather (volumetric clouds) and the Training Centre, I believe. As coursetim says, it’s a decent price for all the routes you get (if you don’t have them already)
If you're on steam pc, summer sale is next week on the 29th. The main difference between tsw2 and tsw3 is the brand new lighting and volumetric clouds on the brand new tsw3 routes and training centre and loco dlcs in tsw3 not requiring the base route. Excluding the legacy routes included in the base game and deluxe edition, only sherman Hill and boston have received the brand new features. There are no plans to bring the new features to other legacy content. What kind of content are you looking for? Freight, passenger, specific country, etc.
Sounds good - I assume when I purchase TSW3 all of my current routes will be downloaded automatically. Yeah I had a look - at the moment there is no sale. I will wait till next week and then see. I am more keen to get UK routes then others - But then I do not mind US freight route here and there. Dynamic weather sounds interesting but I think didn't we have that feature already in TSW2 - Training centre is nice touch similar to academy in TS classic. I am more keen towards UK routes and rolling stock - In particular I was looking at Southeastern High speed route which now also includes I believe Dartford and Ashford. Midland mainline is another candidate but I already have Just trains version in TS Classic. I do not mind freight or passenger, Sometimes US freight routes are also quite interesting to drive.
This can depend heavily on the platform you have the game on. I see lots of posts from players on the forum where it hasn't done so, Playstation and XBox in particular. On XBox it's easy enough to resolve if it doesn't, just go into "manage game" and tick "all" then "save changes". I think Steam usually downloads all my owned DLC for games, with a few exceptions I needed to do manually. Don't know about Epic or the Microsoft Store.
Yeah will have a look next week and probably pick up then - Quick question, will installing TSW 3 automatically remove TSW 2 from my drive? As I would only like to have only one version of game installed at a given time.
It is not a version of a game, it is technically a different game (or more precise: a different App in Steam). Just like installing GTA V would not uninstall GTA IV, TSW2 will stay next to TSW3 until you manually uninstall it.
Could you be specific as what works and what not - hopefully allows me to make up my mind to see if TSW3 is right investment.
Some scenarios that used to work in TSW2 don't work in TSW3. Off the top of my head: Trunk Service, Cold as Ice, BR 143 Introduction, Talent2 Introduction. There may be more: I'm old, and my memory is frail. Do not base your purchase decision on these though. I think TSW3 is worth it. You don't buy it to play TSW2 content, you buy it for the TSW3 content.
As yardem said, and if you have enough storage capacity, I'd wait before uninstalling TSW2 for the reasons given. Some stuff that worked in TSW2 is broken, but also vice versa (TSW2 SPG derailments are fixed in TSW3).
I was going to open a new thread, but this thread is close - have any of you had issues with the 3 core routes in TSW2 (Köln, bakerloo, Sandpatch) not being available for free to download in TSW3? Im PS5 user btw
EDIT - Try Pipes suggestion below first - Might be worth contacting support - I know there was a delay with them coming to TSW3 as they had to be split to separate store pages, so it may be linked...
You should download the three routes separately and install them by managing game content. Plus the Expansion Packs if you had this purchased for TSW2 in the past. These routes and the expansion packs are split up in TSW3. Worked well for me on PS5.
thanks all - so I originally bought TSW2 as a digital copy. I can see they are available as separate downloads in the PS store, but at a price - this is the problem. All my other add-ons are stating "Free" i.e. no further payment required. so unless no ideas here, I'll raise a ticket - thanks
Probably your best bet, yeah. If you own TSW2 digitally the core routes from that should just be downloadable in TSW3
