I already understood that any dlcs I have purchase in tsw6 won't get a version for tsw5, 4, 3, 2, or 2020 (even if this dlc exists in these previous versions) but what about if I (hypothetically) buy a dlc in tsw2, or tsw3, or tsw4, etc... will I get its tsw6 version? I'd like to someone from dtg to clarify this thanks
Hello there - hoping to double-check with our internal teams to confirm, and I'll get back to you shortly!
Hello - just to confirm, forward compatibility will still work where applicable, so for any new TSW2/3/4/5 content that you purchase on the same game platform and account, this will be supported and playable in TSW6 Please read our TSW6 Compatible Content FAQs for the full information, as this is outlined on that page. Thank you!
Can I clarify something? Going by the response above and the FAQ (and talking about Steam in my case): If I decided to buy the Fife Circle DLC and bought it from the TSW6 store, it would then not be downloadable in TSW4 and TSW5, but if I buy it from the TSW4 store, it would be forward compatible with all versions? Has it always been like that? And does that mean that it's actually to one's (theoretical) benefit to buy a DLC for the earliest version of TSW under which it became available?
Calidore266 Correct! Add-ons for earlier versions than TSW6 are supported in TSW6. But if you buy a TSW6 DLC, you won’t get a version for TSW5 or older. That's right it used to be that way, and it was a benefit that's now been removed. So if you bought a TSW5 add-on, you'd also get a version for TSW4 but thats not the case anymore with TSW6! I also wonder why anyone would want to buy a TSW6 version and then try to play it in, say, TSW5?! The real TSW6 add-ons don’t work at all on TSW5 or earlier.
I'm sure it would be a rare case, but for example, if someone buys an older DLC for a current version of TSW and finds a bug that was introduced in that version but doesn't exist in the previous one (which they also own), whether introduced by the version update process or a later patch, they would at least have the ability to revert. Or more globally, if a patch to the main game borks everything. Ridiculous forum hyperbole aside, patches do occasionally break things, and broken things are not always deemed worthy of fixing by DTG. The derail bug introduced into TSW2 soon before TSW3's emergence, is an example of both. For occasions where reverting would improve playability for whatever reason, it would be nice to continue having the option.
