Hi railroaders, I have a couple quick questions for the "bosses" or experienced players re: TSW4. I currently am running TSW3 with TSW2, and TSW original routes so no real need to upgrade at this time however, I see there is a TSW4 US Regional Edition that claims to have this new Free Roam feature as well as an "upgraded" Scenario Planner & Livery Designer. As I am not interested in the Euro routes, this would be my pick mainly just for the FR, SP & LD upgrades (unless these upgrades apply to existing versions also) but, before I make a decision to purchase ... 1) Can I d/l the US regional platform only as an upgrade to my current versions/routes without issues? 2) Is the Free Roam actually a free roam where you can jump in a loco or consist and do you your own thing? Make your own train? Go for an exploratory run? Use a loco for collecting the game items, &c. 3) What exactly are the "upgrades" to SP & LD / how have they been "upgraded" from previous?... I am curious as to the details. Specifically... - Can you select better train consists (number & types of locos, cars, &c) or routing in SP? - Is SP easier to use ie: route selection? (I always found it sort of awkward when setting start, stop, and finish locations and restricted to certain selections presented by the AI during the process). - Can you save created logo designs in LD to a special folder for re-use on other equipment? (Been hoping for this since LD was created). - Are there new things in LD to utilize? - Can a complete LD scheme be copied to a loco of the same type in another route? (last time I was in, it would have to be done from scratch again on the other route's loco). - Have the CN Oakville locos been added to LD yet? (Particularly the GP9rm). 4) Have there been any issues that would make this upgrade not feasible at this time? Any enlightenment on these questions would be appreciated in helping me decide to purchase the version upgrade or not. TIA
1) Yes and your older DLCs will still be usable 2) Yes, custom consist, your own train (The couplers have to be the same). You can spawn anything that you own 3 SD) There are portals ! If you know how these works in TSC. Basically you can make any train spawn or despawn at the ends of the map 4) I don't have any issue with US content at the moment 5) If you are on PC Steam your questions such as "Better trains consist" and your "own train" can be done with the Formation Designer that was recently made avaible
Thanks Max, I guess I should have mentioned I am on Xbox 1s. Doesn't sound like I really need to upgrade then other than for Free Roam, which I don't really need but would be nice. I was hoping for more improvements to Livery Designer than anything else. Is it really even that different than the TSW3 LD?
It has the 1000 layers instead of the 300 per carriage/coach/car/loco, that’s biggest and best change IMO The UI/control’s has changed for it, for the worse in my opinion, probably very PC orientated (wish the old UI/old controls would come back) i was exited for the 1000 layers but haven’t used livery designer much due to the controls being bad, kinda put any project I wanted on pause due to that. note: no formation designer on console as of yet.
Thanks guys. I think I'll just leave it be for now. I don't need to upgrade but wondered if it would be to any advantage to do so. Sounds not at this point.
At this point if you can live without the routes that only run on TSW4, unless it gets another heavy discount in a sale might be worth waiting to see if we're getting TSW5 later in the year. That's what I've done with my PS5 version, left it at TSW3, just got 4 on the PC.
Truly the only good reason to get TSW4 now would be the ability to play Blackpool Branches. If you can hang in there until the Summer, there might be one or two new things to make TSW5 ( or whatever they call it ) worthwhile. Might even be a US dlc or two who knows.
As others have said, if you are not interested in the routes currently on offer, than there is no point in getting TSW 4. There isn't much of a difference from TSW 3 to 4 with TSW4 only offering updates to existing features that we already have.
So sounds like we're all on the same page about the upgrade. And no I am not interested in any of the TSW4 routes. I would be more inclined to upgrade if the Livery Designer was upgraded to many of the suggestions in the thread about same, but since it hasn't been to any great value, no point in spending the cash for ho hum improvements.. and still no CN Oakville GP9rm available in it.
