So recently TSW4 came to Xbox Gamepass... I have Gamepass Ultimate but I already owned TSW4, so it wasn't super relevant that it showed up, but one cool thing that comes with Gamepass is it means you can now play it on the Xbox Xcloud game streaming. For anyone that doesn't know what that is, basically you can play the game on any device which has a browser, internet and can hook up to a controller. Your phone, an iPad, a laptop or desktop computer... what it does basically is run the game on Microsoft's servers and streams it through the browser. So the specs of the device aren't even relevant, what matters mainly is internet connection. You need a pretty decent internet connection for it to work well but I just tried it out for fun to see how it worked and it's actually a good experience, at least on my Mac desktop with a 300mbps connection. I fired it up on the MS Edge Browser with a PS5 controller paired to the Mac. It started up just as it does on Xbox, and all my owned DLC were available to play (I am not sure if it lets you play everything you own or just whats installed on Xbox, since I have all mine installed, I'd have to test more to figure that out). All the progress associated with my Xbox game was there as well. I opened up AVL and did a depot service, and it was very playable. Basically the same as playing on the console other than two main exceptions: a bit more input lag when moving the camera around, and the streaming compresses the video so the graphics don't look as good (I think it streams in 1080p). But either way it is neat. I wouldn't replace my home console experience with cloud but it will be interesting to try it when travelling on phone screen or on a tablet. It also might be worth it to try for anyone that as a crappy computer that isn't powerful to run the game natively but has a good online connection. I don't use cloud gaming very much, and I know the last time I tried it when travelling it was a poor experience on crappy hotel wifi, but it is a neat thing to try out for anyone that hasn't already.
I’m glad it’s back on Gamepass for the same reason. I can play it on iPad on the train so long as I can keep a mobile signal. Another nice things about Gamepass cloud gaming recently is the cloud gaming app on the Quest 2 and 3 VR headsets, it’s not VR, but it’s like playing on a really big screen. It works really well. I’ve been playing TSW4 and Forza Horizon 5 and it’s been pretty good.
I think it works really good, I use remote play a lot on a night when I want to chill in bed. One thing I wish is dovetail did some loyalty discounts as I brought all my DLC on steam but would love to play tsw on my Xbox my laptop cannot run it as well. But no way would I buy all the DLC all over again.
The storefront thing on PC now is so bizarre. I haven’t really played PC games since back in the early 2000s when you had to buy everything in stores, but the nice thing was a PC was a PC and it didn’t matter where you bought something, it all installed the same way. Ever since Steam came along they’ve created all these walled gardens within the PC world that make them more like a console. Bought a game on Epic but the DLC is on sale on Steam? Too bad, won’t work together. Your story is another great example. You own the game FOR PC. You own the DLC FOR PC. But you can’t use it unless you launch from that one specific store front.
