In another life, I used to create content for Microsoft Train Simulator. I stopped that a long time ago, and briefly tried making some stuff for TSC, but that never really went anywhere. I left this forum and for a time left TSW3 due to how bored i was getting with the game. Through no fault of the developers, but just my interest in simply playing was waning a lot. However, i haven't stopped popping into this place once in a while, and seeing the announcement of a new version, I did honestly groan. I cannot afford to get a new version day 1, nor do i want to right away. I'd rather enjoy TSW3 and those routes, before i upgrade again. So I was skimming everything, until i saw PC Editor. That drew my attention. I very much enjoyed building content for MSTS despite how unstable the editors were in that game, and I am interested in trying again. What this whole thing basically means is, I am planning on downloading the editor, and seeing if I can get some use out of it. I really want to try to build a route that I tried to build for MSTS but never really succeeded. I did have the idea of building said route as an extension to an existing route already, because that hard work has already been completed, but i have my doubts at being able to do that, so instead my first route, if i get the hang of the editor, will be a fictional route that i've wanted to make for a long time. I don't want to formally announce anything yet, nor claim to be a new route builder, but I think this new editor might finally bring me back into the content creation space that I left years ago. I hope I can get a grip on the editor and be able to build routes.
I think a lot of us are hoping the TSW route editor will breathe fresh life into that side of the hobby, even if the learning curve looks a bit daunting. At least hopefully unlike the MSTS editor there will be a bit of support and more people using it to draw on each others experience.
I've already outlined a fictional route I might try to build once i can start using the editor. It's 17 miles, and has 140 services planned for it. That might seem like a lot, but I really wanted to try to do something simple.
