Xbox Tsw4 Reviews

Just been having a browse of the Xbox store and imagine my suprise at finding 19 reviews (at 4.5 stars) already up for TSW4 even though its not released yet.

And a lot of them are all comments like "Cant wait for this I'm so hyped", "Just preordered", "Yay".

It does serve as a good reminder to check out the forums and videos for honest feedback though (Although a rare few do leave useful informative reviews). I'm not sure if PS and Steam stores do it differently?

 

Hopefully for DTG's sake that those are the only 19 reviews left up there. Wouldn't want a repeat of last year's hundreds of reviews ending up at 2 stars.

 

That’s why I never trust store reviews. In the same way, you can guarantee that the minute TSW4 goes live on steam there will be negative reviews. It’s always the same.

 

The steam ratings would most likely be overwhelmingly negative. Exaggeration but the small majority of people there have been hating on tsw since tsw3 and are even more fuming with tsw4. It's not the best place to read reviews because since there's no moderation, players are reviewing based on anger rather than being constructive.

 

Just like the reviews on Amazon which give a product one star because they didn't like the packaging it arrived in.

Why are M$ even allowing reviews to be published before the actual release anyway?

 

That was exactly my thought, surely thats a little off? Especially as some were published in August

 

Seems strange. Are people just buying the game to put up a negative review then refunding? Otherwise I don't see the point of giving away money just to put up a review.

Nah. If you're apt to pre-order something it makes sense that you'd give it a 5 star review sight unseen. Wait a few weeks to see real player reviews trickle in.

 

Really? I had no idea. I've always seen an hour's played number next to any review of Steam. It really should be a bare minimum requirement so that people know this or that person actually tried the game.

 

The Xbox review system is totally messed up. In Belgium a game get's review bombed on Xbox if there is no French language available

 

I had deleted the comment because I've seen mixed things on Google where people will say yes and no so I wasn't entirely sure. But it seems to be true that you can review without owning according to steam themselves

I have posted plenty of positive reviews on Steam, etc. I've also had titles where I initially posted a positive (or negative) review then later went back in and changed it. Stray being the latest example, initially giving it a thumbs down due to constantly getting the bluddy cat killed by Zurks or Sentinels. However a combination of "gittin gud", slight changes to gameplay by the dev and discovering a god mode mod let me enjoy it much better and I changed the review.

And yes I did have a tear in my eye at the end...

While there probably should be a minimum play time before allowing a review to be posted, the downside is that could result in the poor old guinea pig playing missing the refund slot if it really is utterly pants.

 

Xbox is really not a good source for reviews. A lot of games that have good reviews on steam and are IMO good games get 1 star reviews and the review reads "pas de langue française" (not available in French). How is that a helpful review? When you notice most of those reviews are about the language being English the review score is IMO totally worthless

 

I read the steam reviews and frankly they seem honest. I haven't seen a review on steam where a player that posted had zero play time on a dlc for instance. The issue with reviews on Xbox is that there is a limit on what you can say about a product so more often than not, Xbox reviews lack detail and don't fully explain why they don't like a product

 

Honestly reviews these days are worthless no matter what. You can get a general sense of a product sure, but anything iffy, I buy on Steam or Xbox as they have decent refund processes.

 

I think the only way to reliably check a game is to watch gameplay footage before you purchase. Watch it and make up your own mind, don’t listen to what the channel owner is saying (particularly if they are an ambassador for a particular game and receive free games as a result) when what they say very obviously and clearly conflicts with what you can see on the screen.

Oh I had no idea Xbox had a refund policy. Good to know.

 

For some reason it lets me add a rating and I haven't preordered or anything.
What a strange one. Maybe a weird quirk with Xbox?

Xbox reviews are not the best I’ve seen, and have found several where it’s 5 stars and the message along the lines of “how do I start the game ?”

 

There are plenty of steam reviews where you can tell the reviewer is angry or is giving a negative because they don't know how to use the DLC, probably haven't done the tutorial or read the manual. I suspect there are a small minority who will purchase something to give a bad review but I am sure that isn't common.

I take little notice of reviews, good or bad, my experience often doesn't mirror the negative reviews of products I have bought or sometimes the positive. It is best to research yourself rather than go on reviews.

Of course for some the negative reviews reinforce their own desire to hold a negative review so they will believe them enthusiastically and disregard the positive reviews, there are a few on here like that I am sure.

On trip advisor, one reviewer gave Worcester Cathedral a negative review because it didn't have a roller coaster inside!

 

Not another cathedral without a roller coaster, that makes at least two that I know of

 

Lol you would think a roller coaster would have been the first thing on the medieval craftsmans mind!

 

I think Matt and JD have been getting a headstart on the haters!

In all seriousness, I pay little attention to reviews on any platform as they are subjective and people often have very unrealistic expectations and ideals for what constitutes good or bad.

 

Be interesting to hear from Xbox players if the audio has been sorted in TSW4.
If not I will definitely steer clear and stick with the master race.

 

Yep, generally no questions asked for me.

But yeah, reviews on XBox can be made by anyone who "owns" the game, but this is extended to "has preordered" and "has access via gamepass".
