I have noticed, using the AC4400CW that the dynamic brakes are working even if you don't « bail off » the brakes on the locomotive.

In TSW3, when brakes were applied on the loco trucks, the dynamic brake wouldn't provide any traction, and we couldn't hear the engine revving up (or if dynamic brakes were previously engaged, we were hearing it revving down).

I think it applies to all the trains. I intend to try it on Cajon Pass too.

With Sherman Hill and later, you have to bail off or your dynamic brake stops working. The physics have changed from the very first tsw route to now. I think with the original freight routes, it wasn't necessary, but it's still good practice to bail off independent when you have both dynamic and automatic applied.

Well, before I upgraded to TSW4, I had to bail off in SPG and Cajon Pass. This bug has been introduced very recently.

I have issues with my internet connection, else, I would try it on TSW3 to see if the same problem applies on it.

A lot of the older Diesel-Electrics would still apply dynamic braking even with the loco air brake cylinders fully applied, but the modern ones from Cajon Pass and Sherman Hill definitely should not. I've always had to bail the brakes to get the dynamics to engage on those.

Whelp… Seems like my lack of knowledge is the problem after all…

Did some tryouts on Cajon pass and it's true for the ES44C4 that you cannot use independant brakes and dynamic brakes at the same time, but it's not the case for the SD40 (which is also on SPG).

I guess you spoke the truth, lordbean , and I'm now less ignorant than yesterday. I blame my memory for thinking it was the same in SPG.
    Sorry folks
