Just wondering if the fps will be unlocked to >60 fps on Gen 9 consoles.

Very unlikely. TSW5 will still be using the same game engine as TSW4. Not much has changed.

    120fps?

Jesus I'd just be happy it it could do more than 25 in busy areas.

I'm delighted to get 40fps on PS5 on routes like like SEHS which can drop to 25fos at times in some areas.
120fps lol. Not happening at 4k in any game on PS5

I’m on Series S and run pretty consistently between 40-60fps across the board on most routes even using the full timetables, and even London to Brighton at Victoria.

The only performance hit I have is coming in/out of Doncaster on ECML, but even then it only lasts a couple of seconds.

I'd much rather a constant 50-60 fps (XBSX) first

Given how hard of a time the PS5 and other Gen9 consoles have going all out and failing to hit a consistent 60fps in the game now, how exactly do you expect it to do better than 60? I am pretty sure DTG don't have any fairy godmothers on staff.

I have Series S and X and both run TSW better than PS5 but there is a reason.

    1) The series S has lower quality graphics settings and draw distance for optimisation.
    2) The series X is running the same reduced draw distance as the series S but with higher texture quality.

The PS5 is working harder than the Xbox consoles as it is dealing with both the higher texture quality, higher sound quality and larger draw distance.

This exactly. I am a PS player but in 2023 I bought a Series X to go with it... not for TSW mind you but when I tried it out on Gamepass I was like whoa, this feels much smoother... so I started buying my stuff on X instead... but then when the distant scenery issue became apparent with the Series X I went back to PS5.

PS5 is a bit choppier in some areas but benefits from not having nerfed scenery distance and doesn't have the z-fighting issue in cabs.

That said the PS5 has gotten a bit smoother with the more recent updates to TSW4. We will see what TSW5 brings.

Try remastered LIRR at Jamaica in rush hour.
Last time I tried this on PS5 it brought it to its knees and was literally a slideshow.

Said PS5 however was sold recently to help replenish my coffers after selling my soul for an RTX4090.
The latter, I am happy to say, is an absolute beast and carries all before it, even putting my old RTX3090Ti to shame.

That should be the case, but it isn’t. TSW4 on Xbox only runs the Series S build of the game regardless if you own an S/X. The PS5 version is running the steam build if I remember correctly. This is what DTG Matt said in a previous stream. Unless this has been altered, it would be good to get some clarification on this.
Also for TSW5 too, will this be the same deal?

I would assume so unless DTG explicitly state otherwise.

Aside from in game features and new routes, I don’t think there have been any changes to any internal parts of the core game affecting performance or settings or anything else relevant

And you get 15-20 as soon as volumetric fog arrives...

You forgot to mention that part. :D

All ToD4 routes tank below 30fps on XBOX Series S, unless your console is wildly different to mine.

Believe me, you'll notice it on ToD4 routes like ECML and Blackpool Branches.

Old ToD2 and ToD3 routes, like London Commuter and SEHS aren't too bad, but newer routes will hit hard.

I own and play both Blackpool and ECML and don’t get any major performance issues.

Aside from Doncaster, it averages between 45-60FPS

Set custom weather to fog, and make sure volumetric fog is enabled in game options.

    Enjoy the slide show. :D

Firstly I wasn’t actually aware that volumetric fog could be enabled or disabled, so I’m pretty sure it’s been on since the launch of TSW4.

Secondly, I’ve driven in fog multiple times on every route I own - either through a change in dynamic weather, or selected weather.

One thing I forgot to add is alongside Doncaster on the ECML, Gospel Oak on the Goblin also takes a drop - but again it definitely doesn’t hit any lower than 30fps.

And just in case anybody is actually shocked and considering questioning, I can confirm I am definitely on series S. I was considering upgrading to Series X as I had concerns with regards to the performance on WCML South

do you own many DLC? the more you have, the worse the performance is. Im missing only 3 UK dlc so i dont get the best performance on series X. espesially on busier routes that have layers.on series x im tanking below 30 quite often on some routes and areas

I have near enough around 200GB of DLC including the core game, perhaps give or take a couple off, and I still have one or two addons not installed because I have no interest in playing them.

A mix of UK, US and German addons too.
