I am totally unhappy with the TSW5, mainly on the Kinzigtalbahn - but also on other routes: The performance is simply bad and the thing just runs like a bag of screws. I constantly have reloading stutters, which of course cause the whole game to freeze for a moment and the frames drop. I never had this problem with the previous versions, everything ran at 60fps (that's enough for me) and a pretty upgraded engine.ini. The game is installed on the SSD. I don't think it's my system either, because sometimes when driving everything runs perfectly at 60fps and then the stutters start (hard drive light is constantly on). I have also driven the route back and forth several times (shader compilation) but that doesn't help either. When entering Frankfurt, for example, I once had around 40fps, another time 3fps. The game runs equally badly with or without the start parameter -DX12. Funnily enough, I have the same problem when I set EVERYTHING to low and turn down the resolution: reloading stutters. All drivers are up to date. I also have a custom engine.ini but even if I use the standard ini, nothing changes. I think the TSW is very CPU-hungry and I know that my CPU is currently not the newest but as I said, once the game is running and doesn't decide to reload any crazy things, the frames are back at 60fps, even with the screen percentage set to 120%. That's why I assume that the bottleneck isn't weak hardware. It's particularly bad in Hanau and of course in Frankfurt. I can understand it there because of the amount of overhead lines and tracks but the ridiculous 3fps is a bit strange. There are also locations betsween stations where it runs perfectly on one trip and then on the next trip at exactly the same spot there is a parade of stutters. My system: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor RAM: 16.0 GB Nvidia RTX 2070 Super Does anyone else have any ideas? I'm really at my wits' end. Re-downloading and deleting all config files would also be an option, but somehow that has never helped me.
Have you tried any ini mods? You are never gonna completely get rid of the stutter but there are some ini mods available to reduce it.
Hey Nasenhupe, sorry to hear about your fps troubles. I too experience stutters or micro stutters, however you want to qualify them. But I don’t get 3 fps. I definitely get drops around busy areas (I’m looking at you, London Commuter), but I’ve never seen it below 30 fps. I do have a more powerful system than you, but I’m curious about this 3 fps. Is it sustained? Or it’s momentary? I’m thinking if it’s momentary, it has to do with the optimization of this game. Some people around here seem to think that’s as easy to fix as waking up, or perhaps that every development team has the same set of skills and can produce the same results, since they compare it to other games. I’m not so sure it’s that easy, but who knows. Bottom line, I was trying to determine if what you’re seeing is pretty much what others see, or if perhaps we’re staring at a bottleneck of some sort. Oh, and besides sustained vs momentary, do you see this same issue at any other station besides Frankfurt? And one more, have you made sure your graphics driver is up to date?
Have a look here, it should help you. TSW 5 | Lighting & Visual Quality Enhancement v1.1 - Train Sim Community
Hey guys, thanks for the help so far. ChengHo : The 3fps issue has only occured once. I remember on a previous session, I even had 40fps while approaching Frankfurt Central Station which I thought was a pretty decent frame rate for this area. When I approach Hanau station I also have massive frame drops. When I stop there and walk around, I sometimes have about 20 frames. Usually when I just walk around and for example and look to the floor, I get stable 60fps because not much has to be rendered (at least for my understanding), but on TSW5 once the frames begin to drop with constant drive LED flickering, it will not improve during the session. Sometimes when i begin the trip in Kassel, it runs perfectly fine and the longer I drive, the more stuttering occurs. Someome also suggested that my 16GB of RAM might not be enough. Perhaps that this is the case and I also remember I fiddled around with the windows swap file back in the days when I had the Mircosoft Flight Simulator installed. Perhaps there is something messed up?! Should I have a swap file or not? SGTDRE : I will check the mod, perhaps there is an improvement. Thank you! I am so disappointed because TSW 4 ran more than smooth on my rig. I could crank every setting up (except weather effects which drew lots of performance) and it was perfect and now with TSW 5 it runs like LOVE. It can not only be my system.
i dont think you can make something, the new trailer of MBTA route you can see train passing and lagging a lil also...nothing is running smoothly...
Is there anyone who can play Frankfurt Central Station smoothly - i.e. at a constant 60 FPS? Or does even a NASA computer not help? Even with an RTX4070 STi I only get about 45 FPS.
Then I know it is definitely not my rig. Other routes run very smooth with maxed out settings and 120% screen percentage. I really hope they fix this.
