While in general I’m eagerly awaiting TSW5 and have preordered the Deluxe edition, there are a few issues that seem to have escaped. The first which I must return to, is the Save Game. Not mentioned anywhere and a direct ping to Matt P has not elicited a response. With getting on for 70 routes in game, one save slot simply doesn’t cut it any more. TSC gives us a save for each scenario. Run 8 offers infinite save slots. Then the other thorny issue. Finish a run, stay in game and take over another train, save and load that then all your objective data has vanished. If this has not been fixed, is it likely to also affect route hopping so you finish up your run and jump to take over a train on an adjacent route, run out of time and save only to find when you come back later the objectives have vanished? Steam traction - just because you are not developing for it doesn’t mean to say the core flaws shouldn’t be addressed. This will fix what we already have and maybe encourage the likes of Bossman, Victory and Smokebox to get on board if they can do decent physics. If you really want TSW to usurp TSC then you need to address this. Stuck trains in Journey Mode. The new super duper 2.0 is all well and good but you need to extend the ability to delete stuck trains causing face offs and red light lock ups, in the same way as if running the timetable run normally. Timetable runs selected through the normal way but which happen to form part of the Journey element, should be ticked off as complete (this would also provide a way round the issues above). Doors opening when off the platform. It just looks stupid and there are situations IRL such as short platforms where not all the doors would open, not just driver error stopping short over overshooting. Some information on whether these long standing core issues are addressed would be nice.
Agreed, especially with steam physics. I would also like to know if the formation designer is going to be updated. For example, in February it was said: Cargo loading hasn't been added yet There are still some things that can couple in game but not in the formation designer. For example: 313, 314, 465 ROG 37, Electrostars, 700 There are still some things missing. For example: Blackpool Branches (Class 08, Mk 1 & Mk 2 coaches, TEA tankers) Midland Main Line (individual EMT Class 43 & Mk 3 coaches) Bakerloo Line (1938 Stock) Tees Valley Line (BBA Wagons) Great Western Express (HKA Hopper Wagons) Peak Forest (ICI Limestone Wagons) Also: Formations still can't be downloaded from creator's club Naming the individual parts of multiple units separately would be nice, so we don't have to just try them all to figure out which is the right one
I’d like to know: -If there have been any changes to the way substitution works, has it been improved? -If there’s been any improvements to dynamic weather
Yes, I would like to see multiple save options too for stuff you played instead of just one save. My main feature that I've heavily requested is fast cam (on console). This was added in TSW3, but they removed it in TSW4. I know it’s not a concern for PC players, but us console guys like to view a speeding train a few miles up the track too. I miss that.
I would guess no in regards to the weather because DTG would have announced it, I say they are probably busy trying to fix what was wrong with TSW4
There are still outstanding issues, probably that is why DTG have given players an opt out in the form of a free version of TSW5.
Agreed, there are certainly many questions which remain unanswered, especially on the topic of steam. Answers would be nice, even if they aren't the ones that we want to hear.
The steam trains smoke also, is that still a diesel traction physics look or is it actual steam train smoke simulation.
We need all the lighting enhancement mods stuff (or some of it) in the base game! That´s the number one thing for me at this point after the track shadow thing seems to be solved.
The silence concerning the save game feature is certainly enigmatic on the part of DTG to say the least. Is it still being worked on? Is it not considered important? Is it technically beyond the ability to fix? When you remember how routine the feature was/is in MSTS and TSC, it's brokenness in TSW is difficult to understand. When it was suspended then reinstated last year, I think we all assumed it was still being worked on. Maybe the lack of answers means it really isn't and DTG is sheepishly not willing to say so.
I must be honest and state that I've never needed more than one save game as I've religiously finished a route before moving onto a new one. Maybe that's just me. Totally agree on steam traction, in fact I'd be happy to even see it return in it's current condition as it looks good and is better than nothing. Then if the physics are improved in the future perhaps it can be backdated.
Agree with the OP the silence on the save game is deafening. I too would love to see some of the TSC third parties make steam content for TSW but as said they aren't going to if they don't feel they can produce a decent product. If we had a couple of decent steam routes I would likely stop using TSC, as long as JT keep producing BR routes too! With the way service mode works and the ability of AI to run round and shunt, some really immersive steam routes could be produced, especially some of the interesting branch lines that have existed. You wouldn't even need a load of stock to run them.
In TSC currently I have several runs unfinished. Doing a 25 MPH freight haul on a US freight route but the scenario is something like 150 minutes, so dive out of that for a run on Hope Valley. Wife taps me on the shoulder with a chore to do so save that too. Got another 150 minute scenario on Taurus Mountains which is a great route but after half an hour the brain craves something else. The only issue that might be a factor is how much space a save game requires, never really looked at that but even if we just had three slots it would offer more flexibility than now. Well it looks like the wall of silence from DTG on these issues continues, we know they have been active on the forum over the weekend, but no response to the concerns raised by various people. Guess we’ll have to take another stab at asking when the Q&A for preview streams goes live.
Haha Vern sounds like you've got the random events at home that people want in the game! Personally I freak out at the thought of DTG trying to make multiple save games work, I can just imagine trains mysteriously porting across to routes they were not on before lol.
I wonder in what color those sticky, everlasting "NEW" banners will come. Yellow in #3, orange in #4, what's next? Pink? OR You make them go away when the DLCs aren't new anymore. Brillyunt, no?!.
I wish they'd just get rid of them. Although, funnily enough, out of all DLC I have installed, ECML doesn't show it (which is weird because most DLC I have is from TSW3 and before).
Only 3 days from now we get to see the WCML preview, so hopefully that'll answer some of our questions.
Definitely agree on steam. The core must be fixed and improved so that 3rd parties have any real shot of stepping in (as some developers have already voiced on the forums). Not even the promised manual firing ever materialised. Speaking of which, we still haven’t heard anything on the mysterious 3rd parties interested in steam that DTG have repeatedly talked about when pressed for steam news.
Before one asks for multiple save slots, is the single save slot faultless? Also with the newest Expert BR101, with lots of scripting and hundreds of variables to save and re-initialise? OldVern's are very valid questions, and the silence is deafening so far ... TSW5 should be a considerable step forwards, not some TSW 2,3,4 mark-one-and-a-half, or one step forwards in this direction and two steps back in many others ...
I’m taking the ongoing silence as indication most if not all of the core issues raised have not been addressed for the TSW5 update. Beginning to think voting with my wallet and downgrading to a standard purchase from deluxe is the only way to get the message across.
Problem is that you'll end up adding the 390 etc., and giving them just about the same amount of money. They've been very clever about all the price points. Well, they are a business after all.
The real question: Why did Dovetail break their tradition of Tuesday/Thursday preview streams this week. Did they have insider knowledge that Oasis were coming back and decided they needed to try something new to steal some attention?
I wouldn't hold your breath for that, the Gallaghers will have probably fallen out again by the time the tour begins
You better get in there quick. Should imagine these selling out within 48 hours. A whole bloody year wait to see them though.
Clever to the point of devious. Much will hinge on what stuff looks like in the preview streams, but I just have a premonition the 390 is going to end up aliased to the Azuma's almost non existent sound and the 350 copy and paste the botched audio in from the 700. If we eventually get the 390 for £7.50 in a sale with a £6 price tag for the Flixtrain set then yep, only £6.50 difference hence the confliction.
Yes, to see how it goes, which I interpret to mean see if they make enough money doing it this way compared to the past approach.
I have TSW4 on Steam and would like to play the London Overground Suffragette Line. I noticed it's part of the TSW5 Special Edition and I know the game is backwards compatible so all my previous purchases will move forward. But does anyone have any experience buying the newer version dlc and playing it on the older version of TSW? So if I buy the Special edition of TSW5 will the suffragette line unlock for TSWS4 so I can play it today or can I only play it in TSW5+?
I'm gonna chime in again with the state of steam. The way steam has been swept under the rug without so much as a response from DTG is incredibly frustrating. And they just don't seem to want to talk about it. You just get the PR response of "nothing is being worked on" and when you get JT coming onto the forums and stating steam is "borked" on TSW there has to be some responsibility taken surely? Like can they at least fix some of the routes? No B&C formations in timetable, no liveries, no AI steam sound, 4F and FS are broken. As was said can we have some genuine answer and not just a PR "nothing is being worked on". Like we're all paying customers who support steam with our wallets DTG and you've left us all high and dry and you refuse to even acknowledge steam now. Just tell us straight what the situation is and at least fix the simulation so people who do know what they're doing like VW can actually create some real content
I agree with everybody else in this thread about steam needing to be fixed and not left ignored. Peak Forest and Spirit of Steam have so much potential, could both be salvaged and made into fantastic routes (never seen so much trackwork in my life, as there is in those goods yards) if DTG would just do something.
I think DTG made it very clear some time ago that there is no " active development " happening with steam traction. You can assume that includes any remedial work on existing steam routes and locos. They did leave open the possibility of 3rd parties making steam content at some point but, without DTG's input, this seems very doubtful.
You can guarantee they'll not fix anything for steam until they come around to develop new locos and routes + routes outside the UK.
I find it sad that DTG didn't say anything about the PC editor. Many people, including me, are working hard with it and we still don't know much about tje transfer from TSW4 to 5....
Hey folks, some top-level responses to things you've mentioned in this thread. The general rule of thumb is though, that if we've not mentioned it, it's likely there's been no active development on it. No change from our previous discussions around new Steam products, or Manual Firing - it's not something we're actively looking at. We don't envisage changes to how Save Game works across TSW for TSW5's launch - if there are individual instances of something not working though, please make sure you report them on the feedback threads/through our Support Team, with as much information as you can, for us to review We're continuing to work on and refine Formation Designer, but, as above, we're not expecting significant changes for TSW5 launch No changes to how Substitution/Weather currently work in game 'New' banners on content we're not seeing as issues in testing, but please let us know if you see them on launch and we'll investigate There will be a separate TSW5 Editor which will support both TSW4 and TSW5 and will need a separate download - updates are in testing, don't know at this point if they'll be in for TSW5's launch, but we're hoping it'll be soon. Hopefully that helps to provide some clarity.
DTG JD No offense, but if you just said "No, it's not happening" instead of all the corporate "not something we are actively looking at" speak, people wouldn't get so confused and keep asking you. Save the corporate speak for DTG investors and shareholders, and just give people on these forums plain English?
'it's not happening' is very definitive, implying nothing will ever happen. I'm not saying that - I guess what I'm saying is that does change in the future, you'll hear from us on things like a Roadmap, and that we're not currently working on it, with no current plans for that to change. (I don't want this to be a 'they haven't 100% closed the door on it, so it's going to happen in the future!' though. Just don't want to permanently shut the door on it though, when we don't know what the future might entail).
The LNWR branding has in a last minute decision, been taken out of WCML here’s my verdict. 1. The livery despite the missing branding is still fairly decent, and your eyes would probably get used to it 2. Licensing is a tricky subject to cover, it’s not a walk in the park to do 3. This is not dtgs fault here, LNWR backed out last minute so they no choice but to get it out. Anyways enough said, the 390 Looks fantastic
You mean you expect them to discuss it in detail. No way, it will be awkwardly mentioned once or twice quickly followed by but look at this shiny new feature, etc.
I remain hopeful (as ever). Although DTG's communication after the Direct seems to have improved significantly. Is it just me? I never expected such a clear response to this thread from DTG (or indeed, any response at all), and yet they've done it!
