After realising that I didn't want to spend the money I don't have or the CO2 emissions the planet can't cope with on a big 4k monitor and/or fancy computer / GPU combination to get a more immersive feel from TS, I started exploring other options. This week, I remembered that my monitor rotates and can be used in portrait mode, so I gave it a go. Turns out its rather good especially if you're running UK DMUs that typically have tall narrow windows and pokey cabs anyhow. You get a much bigger view of the road ahead, but without the wasted pixels of the cab to either side, where usually not much is happening anyhow. I also found I was looking at the HUD way way less, and actually reading information off the instruments (and my own memory of line speeds) instead. The only downside in my case, was that as I tend to use quite a zoomed in view anyhow as I drive by keyboard, there isn't the visual reminder of the sunflower, but even then, I normally react to the AWS audio warning rather than the sunflower. I was wondering if anyone else had tried this option and what their experiences were of it? Is it a common thing? Its easy to assume from streams that everyone is running a standard 16:9 setup, but are people? Image attached. Excuse the darkness and rain, I like glum driving conditions for some reason!
It's actually a pretty clever way to get a bigger view of the road ahead, without getting a bigger monitor. I'm impressed, lol
I do this too, but I have to balance my monitor on its side. Certainly makes the crashes more realistic when it topples over!
Ouch! You know you can get rotating VESA stands? (Assuming of course that your monitor has a VESA mount on the back). Might cost less than a broken monitor!
r/whoosh (It was a joke) That said, my dream computer (a full Mac Pro setup) has a rotating 6K screen, which could be a lot of fun for TS.
