When using two Class45 in front of train, the second Class45 does not work (no power output),How should it be set up ? Thanks
The class 45 comes from the Northern Trans-Pennine route which is set in the 1980's, and apparently the multiple working system was removed from the locos in real life before that
Possibly try having the master key on and the brakes off on the second class 45 with both locos having both the same brake setting on if your using vaccum passenger the other loco must have the same brake settings. If that doesn't work try it with a different britsh loco that has a blue star on its front if that doesn't work then its a glitch. Unless your meant to have the multiple working coupling and socket between the two locos connected (which idk if that has been implemented in tsw) this way is worth trying image below shows the set up. Edit just saw some of the replies on this thread and from what I heard somewhere the class 45's still had their blue star multiple working system as I recall hearing about some double headed services in the west country back during the mid 80s.
They were built with multi for double heading on the west coast butbit was removed very early and since then they have not been able to work in multi. They did work in pairs but would require a driver in each cab.
To the best of my knowledge, the Class 45 was never equipped for multiple working. Double heading required a driver in each cab controlling the locos individually. The picture gwrfan posted is of a Class 40 which were able to work in multiple with each other or certain other classes but it is not a Class 45!
According to this thread I found the MU equipment was removed well before the time NTP is set. https://www.rmweb.co.uk/forums/topic/73592-class-45s/
I suspect the combined weight of two Class 45's at the front of a train was a major factor in the decision to remove the equipment. I can't really think of many instances where they worked in tandem either.
Strangely the 40s retained it though and they were the heaviest lumps of the lot! I suspect it was partially that, but with an air of that with 2500Hp it was basically redundant requiring a second loco for most services, the 47 and Deltics were never built with MU equipment probably for similar reasons, although BR then later changed their minds with the 50s and 56s
Whilst i don’t think it was ever booked, they regularily worked in pairs down the midland main line right up to when they finished.
I think with the 50s it was specifically because a pair were needed to work the Anglo-Scottish expresses north of Preston, so that the high speed run from Euston behind a 81-85 wasn’t followed by a long, slow drag over Shap and Beattock. I’m less sure when 56s might be used in pairs.
