    The Tyne and Wear Metro service is a service that operates in the North Eastern Region of England. It serves places such as Sunderland, Newcastle, Whitley Bay and South Shields. It has 48.2 miles of track, and is separated into 2 lines: Green Line, and Yellow Line. The Green Line connects South Hylton and Newcastle Airport via Sunderland and Newcastle. Yellow Line connects South Shields and St. James (via Whitley Bay. At Monument station, there is a rare track sequence called the "pretzel configuration", where the train goes to the station twice on the same service, something that you rarely see.

    The rolling stock for this service would be preferably set in two time periods, one being 2013-2019 and the other 2022 onwards.The 2013-2019 period would see the current rolling stock as of today, the Class 994, and Class 599.

    The class 994, were built between 1980 and 1982*, and are the finished product in use on the Tyne and Wear Metro. The fleet number goes from 4003 to 4082, with the exception of 4040. These units are in Nexus' Tyne & Wear Metro Livery.
    The class 599, were prototypes, with different door alarms, and un-refurbished seating. These units are numbered, 4001,4002,4040 and 4083. 4001 has a special livery celebrating 40 years of Tyne and Wear Metro.

    Both 599 and 994 use power drawn from 25kvAC Overhead Wires.

    2022+ Period
    In 2022, the Class 994 and 599 will be replaced by Class 555 units. These are currently being built, and, draw power from 1kv DC.

    There are 3 liveries.

    One of few trains I actually use odd times,(personally been on sections Park Lane - Longbenton and Monument - Tynemouth) I’m pretty sure the new stock isn’t in yet so I would have to say that’s a 2024 or later rather than 2022+ though.

    theirs a lot of stations, they’re quite unique design aswell, and it’s quite a big route so I doubt we would get the whole network in one, maybe the airport line seems more likely to happen.

    few details I would add;

    uniquely the route uses at least a form of PZB (the only one in the U.K. to do so) from what I’ve read.

    it’s got a good mix of above and underground (specifically on the green line)

    Something I’ve always noticed is they’re loud to be in as a passenger the 994, I do wonder if that would be implemented.

    It would allow Ai layers for LNER for Durham Coastline Diversion, more specifically they pass through Sunderland and quite a few other places.

    it’s hard to tell on the map but monument is a 4 platform station (you can get to St James and manors etc without going the whole way round by that station)
