Route Suggestion I would love to see my local The Tyne and Wear Metro come to Train Sim World I use this everyday day to get to and from work and I think it's about time this gets announced its got two routes the yellow line from South Shields to St James via the coast and the green line from South Hylton to Newcastle Airport Via Sunderland and whats interesting about the green line is you be sharing the line with Northern Rail and freight throughout the day between Sunderland and Haworth Interchange along with a few Grand Central services who end their journeys at Sunderland before heading to Heaton Depot in Newcastle (off map), the Tyne and Wear Metro does have a mixture of old and brand new fleet however the old fleet will be getting scrapped soon once all the new fleets come into service (thank god) this picture was taken this morning and it's the beginning of a new era one of the first and brand new fleet doing it's first ever passenger service and a picture of the latest map. Thank you very much for taking time to read all this and I look forward to your opinions.
Fun fact about Tyne and Wear metro is it's signalling system is a form of PZB making it a kind of British S-Bahn. Could be a fun selling point to both the UK and German players.
I think most ideally this would come as the Durham Coast Line, with the Tyne And Wear Metro as a joint route.
Do they use the full range of PZB functionality or is it a simplified version? I assume the latter would work perfectly fine given they only have one type of train, and it is light, with good brakes. It would also be based on an older, less complex version of PZB than the PZB90 system that we have on almost all German trains in TSW anyways... I can't seem to find any information on how exactly the system works though. Either way, I am a big fan of this idea, epecially of the mixed running between light rail, mainline passenger and freight trains.
From reading some rail forums threads it seems like the colour signalling is largely similar to the rest of the UK with no in cab notifications like in Germany but there are magnets fitted in certain locations such as terminus stations or level crossings that use the Indusi/PZB system to prevent overspeeds. Emergency brake applications would also apply in case of a SPAD as anywhere. So it would mostly feel similar to driving under TPWS but the behaviour of the magnets would feel a bit more German. The new Class 555 train is also fitted with the ability to use ETCS which will probably end up being fitted to the network in the 2030s as the PZB system where fitted is an old one dating back to the 1970s. Some sections of the network are also fitted with AWS and TPWS where track is shared with mainline trains.
Sadly on these new trains PZB doesn't exist its AWS and DSD only I was surprised when I found out about that.
That's strange as in this Q&A document (https://web.archive.org/web/2021060...ult/files/metro_futures_webinar_qa_master.pdf) it says: "The new trains are fitted with the Indusi Automatic Train Stop (ATS) system. Indusi is the safety system that is currently in use across the Nexus network / infrastructure. There is also passive provision for the later installation of the European Train Control System (ETCS) should that system be installed anywhere on the network." As mentioned I think the general driving experience in the cab is very similar to driving under AWS/TPWS with the type of magnets used being more of a technical difference in terms of how it stops the train for overspeeds or SPADs.
