Based on the glowing reviews of this commuter route I jumped at the chance to buy it in the recent Steam Fall sale. And I found a route fully deserving of those reviews: the detail is phenomenal, the ambiance is superb, the trains handle beautifully, and it passes my ambiance test: if, at the end of a scenario, I feel like I've really put in a shift working for the railway, then it gets my seal of approval. I don't care if the textures aren't the best, or if some of the rivets are missing, what I'm looking for is that over-all feel that immerses you in the simulation. This route has it in spades.

U-Bahn Hamburg U-1 passes that test with flying colors. This doesn't mean, however, that there aren't small niggles here and there. I've run the route several times now and have not been able to activate the following; I'm hoping some of you might have found work arounds or can point out if I'm missing something (always possible with me ;-)

Concerning the key binds I've found that all of them work with the following exceptions:
    Open left doors
    [,] (comma)
    Open right doors
    [-] (minus)
    Close doors
    [.] (full stop)

I can't get any of those to work either in automatic mode or if you have door control turned on or off, which is: [Ctrl]+[Shift]+[T]

I have found that using the (I) key will close the doors, which is handy if you want to stand outside and watch said doors close without having to quickly jump out of the cab to the platform. This key is not documented that I could find.

Normally, one has to hit the [T] key to load or unload, but with this sim all you have to do is get the train halted with all of the cars on the platform and the loading/unloading happens automatically. I've never really spent a lot of time with commuter routes so I don't know if this is a feature of these sorts of routes or not.

Finally, there aren't any passengers on the platforms! Not a single one that I could see. Is there a way to add these so I don't feel like I'm driving ghost trains!

Well, the silence was deafening, so I asked the publishers, Just Trains, what was up with the keyboard bindings for door opening. This is the answer, for any of you who may be interested:

    KEYBOARD CHANGES:

The keyboard keys have been updated thus:

Open on the left was: , but is now: u
Open on the right was: / but is now: o
Close doors on both sides was: . but is now: i
The yellow "A" button that activates the announcement "Zurückbleiben bitte" can now be operated by the keyboard button: K

So you asked the people that DID know the answer instead of expecting somebody else to have done the same

Yes, crowd funding often comes up with the answers quicker than the source. In this particular case, however, that didn't occur. But now everyone is enlightened ...

Something not mentioned by JT is that when using the "u" and "o" buttons you must hold them until you hear the sound of the doors opening; if you simply push the button and then release your pressure you won't get results.

Ah, but I did read the manual and saw those alternate key bindings. And I did try them, but they didn't "work." That is, unlike every other action, which gets activated by a simple push of the key, the "u" and "o" didn't activate when pushed. So it made me wonder if this change was actually implemented or was missed by the QA department. There was nothing in the manual that stated that these keys required a constant pressure until the doors began to open.

It was only until I got confirmation from JT that they were indeed the bindings (they indicated that the reason for the change was to bring U-Bahn Hamburg in alignment with U-Bahn Frankfurt) that I began to try different "pushings," so to speak. Only after I mashed the key down and held it for a few seconds did the doors actually open. So my original query was to hopefully get other simmers to reveal what they had found to work assuming I wasn't doing what was necessary. Of course, the buttons on the dash always worked.

Note 1: only the "u" and "o" keys need the long treatment; the "k" key (stand back from the doors) and the "i" key (close doors) all happen just with a simple push.
Note 2: the animations for the doors closing is different if you are viewing from inside or outside. Outside you get a beautiful slow animation; inside the doors close practically instantaneously ... :)
