In the last two posts on UI improvements I covered Mastery https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/ui-improvements-part-1-mastery.69983/ and Journeys https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/ui-improvements-part-2-journeys.70067/#post-652005 In this part, I will discuss the Timetable. Timetable is some aspects similar to Journey mode. Major differences: - You can start by selecting a loco - You can set the weather You go to the timetable through "To the trains", select "Choose a Route" or "Train depot". let's choose a route: If you hover over a route, the right part of the screen shows some details. The choice is a bit curious, it shows the collectables, but not the medals and it also does not give an overview on what you already have played, number of drives vs available drives, same for scenarios and tutorials. I think you really want to see that here. I am also missing the achievements/trophies status here. It is a bit curious that all those features are implemented somehow but then get a rather low priority to do it well. There a re two filter options, one is you can just type some text and find you route very fast. That works fine. You also see a filter option where you can filter by country. It is there, but to be honest, I did not even see it existed before I decided to write this thread. It is a very coarse filter. Once you select a route, you should see this: It's another screen you normally pass very fast. Personally I would have chosen to integrate this in the right part of the previous screen, so you can select what you want to do in a single step, instead of two steps. Here you may run into one of the worst bugs in TSW3: it is well possible you end up in a different route here. The workaround is to use the filter, if you do so you have no issues. You can see it happen here, the number of services/scenarios will change after a few seconds. Once you selected the timetable, you arrive into the loco selection screen: If you have not selected a loco, hovering will show some details, one of them the number of services completed. But, if you first select a loco, a slightly different screen will pop-up: here you can see the different versions of the loco you can play. Be aware this may impact what you can do, for some routes different train lengths are treated as livery (specifically for LIRR). You also can choose alternative liveries, but you cannot see if any livery is available. This may be an improvement to show. You you need to check at the Creators Club tab and check. This not a big deal, but these are the small details that make the difference between a reasonable working UI and a great UI. There is not much to say, once you selected the train, you can select a service. If you write this down, you realize how many mouse clicks you need to go from the main menu to actually play the game. The second way to move on is through the train depot, where you start choosing a loco. I never use it, you may like it. It has the same bug the route selection screen has, it may direct you to another route than the one you wanted. That make sit feel a bit cumbersome. Once you played, you will see this closing screen. I cannot show it because I only can upload five images. The screen is quite OK, but is missing one important feature: Close game.
Okay but how do you get it to not have the big yellow "NEW" banner over every single route??? Witchcraft!
It's been a constant pain ever since TSW3 released not being able to make this go away, no matter if you've completed every service on a route and all the tasks, and honestly it needs to be the #1 priority of any UI overhaul, as that screen is just nauseating completely saturated in yellow.
Which platform you on? Wondering if the answer is "PS5" and the addons manager incorporated a fix in how it recognises DLC on console?
Yeah, my guess then is that the bug is somewhere in when it registers your owned DLC on launch vs when it loads your profile's save file, and that the mechanism by which it flags something as not being "new" only works with the order of operations on loading the steam version, and not with the order as it happens on console.
It´s the same trouble on PS5. I´ve asked how to get rid of these annoying yellow "NEW" flags already in the UI thread part 2. Without success, though. Ui Improvements (part 2) Journeys
No someone else gave the same comment. My latest route is Niddertalbahn.and it looks like it is no longer new. I did nothing special to achieve that.
It's ridiculous that we're coming up on 9 months and not only have really basic UI improvements like inverting the colours when selecting options so that the greyed out choice is, intuitively, the unselected one rather than, contrary to every other UI in existence, the selected one been implemented, but launch bugs like this are still a thing. Surely one person could be assigned to UI work and it wouldn't cut into fixing other stuff?
Completely agree with you. I´ve only recently purchased TSW3 (against my principles) and only because of the Niddertalbahn route (no regrets here!) but the shortcomings of TSW3, that childish GUI not to the least, are beyond ridiculous. And now I´ve learnt this is a launch bug? Oh dear ....
