Does anyone know if freight trains on UK routes, specifically Preston to Carlisle do line speed or maximum permitted. For example will a Loco hauling FFA/FFA flats do 75mph (Max permitted) or 110mph (line). Only ask as a couple of Tractors just flew past in the opposite direction pulling PCA's at what seemed to be closer to line speed than the Max permitted 60 for them. Thanks.
They can go at the maximum permitted speed of the slowest vehicle in the consist of course, not line speed . If line speed or a restriction is less than that, then a driver will do that speed as a maximum. (e.g 20 at Carlisle etc)
Oh nice so just to clarify, in game, if a wagon is permitted for 75 and the line speed is 110 that AI train will only go 75 and NOT 110
Yeah, or it should do. I remember once I created a scenario on Midland Mainline and had an AI 08 on the down slow from Loughborough to East Midlands parkway on a short freight, I was in a 101 struggling to get up to speed on the down fast and imagine my surprise to see the 08 doing line speed and overtaking me lol
Lol. Just been messing around with a few bots and bobs, I think there's a difference between scenarios and timetable services. Pulling FFA flats in the scenario it lets you go 110 but did a timetable service with a 47 pulling oil tankers and I was restricted 45 all the way
Technically any AI trains should be restricted to the maximum speed of the slowest vehicle in the consist, but whether the game enforces that is another matter.
The freight train’s headcode class determines the top speed of the consist, 7M89 for example is restricted to 45 mph, 4V23 would be 75 mph, class 6 would be 60 mph.
