Newbie is on first mission on Sand Patch Route and I was successfully able to pickup and couple 8 boxcars. I am now supposed to take them back; but I am unable to move either in forward or reverse as it seems that some sort of brake is preventing it from moving even though I have the throttle set at full speed. I have checked all of the braking systems; and none of them are engaged. According to what I have read so far is that there is nothing else that needs to be done during the coupling procedure as it is automatic. Any help would be appreciated.

Got the exact same problem on the same route/mission after coupling with the 8 boxcars. Haven’t found a solution yet.

Have you set the MU valve to lead or dead and the brake cut out to freight?

Thanks for the tip and I will try that. I successfully went through the tutorials without any problems and it didn't mention anything about doing that. I guess that I have got a lot to learn as of yet. LOL!

Ha ha. Nope not the only one. I haven’t got a clue what I’m doing yet. Got the game for my son who loves trains, but he got stuck, so now I’m on a crash course!!

I finally figured it out. The MU valve is located near the very bottom on the far left side of the control panel. It needs to be set to "lead". Then you need to turn on the cutoff valve to "freight". It is located just below the large red brake lever. Hope this helps.

Be aware of that this is true for many scenarios where multiple locos are involved throughout SPG. You always have to check your settings on all locos in multi loco setups. Not covered very well, or outright, not at all, in most scenarios. Some scenarios can't be even finished if you don't set everything right. Can be a bit tricky at first, but great fun once you get a hang of it.

As GrayDawg said you have to check your loco setup for just about every scenario and service. You've figured it out for 2 locos in front but, if you have helpers in the rear, you'll also need to switch on "banking com" in the lead engine. Plus you'll need to deal with adhesion and wheelspin when you have long, heavy trains. Enjoy!!
