Welcome to the Unofficial Screenshot Competition This is a fun and friendly alternative to the official Screenshot Competition run by DTG. Here you can share your weekly themed TSC screenshots using any 3rd party / post shot editing etc. creations which are not allowed in the official competition. Rules: TSC only shots allowed. Screenshot should be in some way (can be very tenuous) linked to the theme. Otherwise anything goes. You can enter up to 3 screenshots, posted as separate posts. You can delete and replace if you wish. 3rd party content / Reshades / Reskins etc. are welcomed but are not mandatory. Previous week's winner to decide winner (can't enter themselves). The winner chooses the new theme for next week (and becomes the new judge). The Judge of the week's decision is final. We strongly discourage any negative comment or criticism of another entry by a fellow contributor, this is a light hearted & fun contest! This is a major "we are all friendly" thread and we hope it will always remain so. Please keep chat to an absolute minimum. Entries will close at 9:00 PM BST on Friday, May 10th 2024 and will be judged by me - rwaday In the event of this weeks winner not responding by 5:00 PM BST Sunday, May 12th, a new thread will be created using the theme with the highest votes in this weeks poll. Theme for this week : "Early Morning Track-side" Feel free to interpret the theme however you wish. Good luck to all, but most importantly, remember to have fun.
Thank you for your appreciation. This week's contest should push the envelope a bit. I will be looking for those "magic Hour" colors and shadows. Add the human element. Tell a story. The back up themes, should they be needed, will also add some interesting entries.

*Very* early morning for this one, but the 4:50 PM Wadebridge to Salisbury semi fitted goods train departs Exmouth Jn. around 3 AM in July 1960
On a winter morning - defined by the clock, as it is still dark - somewhere between Ebbsfleet and Faversham.
Illuminated by the rising sun, the north bound mail service blasts through the early morning mist on the WCML on the final leg of the long haul from London to Shieldmuir (Glasgow).
Just had to be done, 46200 "Princess Royal" with a rake of MK 1 coaches on an early morning misty express run to Carlisle.
Early sun, long shadows... I couldn't deny standing below the telegraph lines, doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to notice their shadow on the short hood. Same scenario as before, Amtrak Phase 3 rolling stock across Soldier Summit.
I assumed there'd be lots of entries along these lines - but looks like I am the first. Just after dawn as the foreman warms himself by the brazier and wonders where the rest of the PW gang have go to! Presumably still eating their shredded wheat. Welwyn Garden City, Cambs/ECML route - J19 shunting in the background.
NJT Comet V cab car at Long Branch Yard waiting to start it's service to Penn Station. Full moon in the background

Thank you for all your submissions. I thought it would be interesting to see how everyone would use that morning light that tells the viewer a story. The third place goes to Craigie_C with a good use of light and shadows on the locomotive. You can feel the cold damp morning Welsh air. At least there is some warmth and maybe some hot tea or coffee to be had on the footplate.
The second place goes to Blazin. The morning Autumn sun lights up the trees behind this Edinburgh Waverly bound passenger train.
The first place goes to cscarpenter. Nice use of clouds and light shining on the grass and water and a nice reflection of the train filled with people on their way to work. The use of the sails to accentuate the gray of the morning sky was good.
I want to give an honorable mention to cunnington#3154. The screenshot itself tells a story by itself. Trains do not always need to be the main subject in railroading pictures. The human element is also a good focal point. Nice use of early morning sunlight to backlight the building.
cscarpenter, you are the winner an get to run the next contest. Be sure you acknowledge before 5:00 PM BST Sunday, May 12th so you can start the next contest. Thank you all for your entries.
Thanks rwaday for selecting my late to the party offering, glad you liked it. Some lovely shots from all concerned. Week 20 is up and running with the theme "Diesel Powered" Make of that what you will, it doesn't necessarily have to be the loco that is diesel powered, just saying, feel free to let your creative juices run freely. Have fun all https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/unofficial-screenshot-competition-week-19.81383/
Thanks - some great shots as usual (including yours of course!). I'm tempted just to resubmit my shot for the new competition - it IS a diesel generator after all ;-)
Why not, as you say it fits the theme. On a side note I was not aware of the backdated ECML route project you are working on until just now. https://sites.google.com/site/cambridgelinesrailworks/home. OMG how amazing is this. SHOUT OUT TO ALL !!!! Tomorrow for me is all about downloading and playing around to get this up and running on my system (If it will cope with it) LOL
That's cool. Be aware that despite my best endeavours there are quite a few dependencies. Luckily many 3rd party creators allowed me to package their stuff so it isn't too fiddly. Shout out on the Cambs/ECML thread if you hit problems. Neil
OOOps, Cheers mate, apreciated. I guess the "Mr Observant of the year award" clearly isn't coming my way.
