Welcome to the Unofficial Screenshot Competition! This is a fun and friendly alternative to the official Screenshot Competition run by DTG. Here you can share your weekly themed TSC screenshots using any 3rd party / post shot editing etc. creations which are not allowed in the official competition. Rules: TSC only shots allowed. Screenshot should be in some way (can be very tenuous) linked to the theme. Otherwise anything goes. You can enter up to 3 screenshots, posted as separate posts. You can delete and replace if you wish. 3rd party content / Reshades / Reskins etc. are welcomed but are not mandatory. Previous week's winner to decide winner (can't enter themselves). The winner chooses the new theme for next week (and becomes the new judge). The Judge of the week's decision is final. We strongly discourage any negative comment or criticism of another entry by a fellow contributor, this is a light hearted & fun contest! This is a major "we are all friendly" thread and we hope it will always remain so. Please keep chat to an absolute minimum. Entries will close at 9PM PST on Friday, January 17th 2025 and will be judged by me - Mfeets In the event of this weeks winner not responding by 17:00 on Sunday 12th January, 2025 a new thread will be created using the results of this weeks poll. The theme for this week is: Steam's Final Stand Feel free to interpret the theme however you wish.
It is 1957 and Southern Pacific AC11 Cab Forward 4274 makes one of it's last revenue runs, passing through Colfax California bound for Roseville yard.
I don't play much steam, but I can (again) offer this railtour. Or not railtour, considering it's ECML before electrification. Or maybe so because speed signs are boards already as well as a few semaphores have been replaced by color light signals.
Union Pacific Railroad Class 4884-1s '4814' and '4004' of the Union Pacific Big Boy design depart from Laramie, Wyoming in the United States of America hauling 18 ARMN reefer wagons now headed east for Cheyenne on a lovely Summers morning on the Overland Route. The Union Pacific Big Boy was the last stand of steam strength with 20 of the Class 4884-1s and 5 of the Class 4884-2 being produced from 1941-1944 and have gone down in history as one of the most iconic steam locomotive classes ever built for their sheer size and strength. London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) Coronation Class '6221' 'Queen Elizabeth' hauls a special railtour service on the Brighton Main Line headed northwards for London Victoria, England in the United Kingdom in an alternate world where more Coronation Classes than just '6229' 'Duchess of Hamilton' were preserved. The LMS Coronation Class was a last stand of LMS steam locomotive design with 38 of the class being built from 1937 all the way up until the nationalisation of the "big four" into British Railways in 1948. During the LMS period many of the powerful Coronation Classes received streamlined shells as seen here as a method of competing with the LNER Class A4 design. The Coronation Class even briefly held the steam speed record at 114 mph until the LNER Class A4 beat this record not too long afterwards. The design continued operation under British Railways use until withdrawal from 1962-1964. Talyllyn Railway Fletcher, jennings & Co. C Class 'Tal-y-llyn' built in 1864 leads a 150th anniversary special train heading north of Pendre, Wales in the United Kingdom headed for Abergynolwyn. The Talyllyn Railway is an extraordinary example of the last stand of steam; for many years the railway was struggling desperately facing mechanical issues with its locomotives, track maintenance issues, financial troubles and locomotive shortages and when the time seemed near for total closure during the 1950s a dedicated band of enthusiasts banded together to help the railway see plenty more years of service. The Talyllyn Railway is now one of the most iconic heritage railways commonly being credited as one of the first preserved railways in history now utilising many narrow gauge locomotives from other long gone narrow gauge railways in the UK but also continuing to operate it's original locomotives used in service since the 1800s. It celebrated it's 150th anniversary in 2015 after the railway opened in 1865. The railway has made it's way into pop culture as well inspiring or being featured in various iconic works such as Thomas & Friends. Motive Power: Fletcher, Jennings & Co. In it's heyday the beautiful streamlined A4 was the pride of the ECML hauling fast Express Passenger Trains. Sadly the late 1960's saw them reduced to freight duties as they were replaced with state of the art Diesel powered traction.
Sunday 9th July 1967. A work-stained Merchant Navy, 35030 Elder Dempster Lines, climbs Upwey Bank with the 2:07pm Weymouth-Waterloo - the last steam-hauled passenger train on the Southern Region of British Railways. Withdrawn after just 18 years of service, it was cut up in November 1968. Route: Dorset Coast (Golden Age Developments) Loco: PLD Merchant Navy, reskin from Golden Age Developments
After the end of 1967, steam could only be found in select parts of the North West, on predominantly goods workings, and this became rarer week by week. One regular steam passenger working could still be found, the 21:05 Manchester Victoria-Heysham and 06:15 return "Belfast Boat Express", but this too was not to last and, on 6th May 1968, Carnforth-based Black 5 45025 is seen south of Lancaster with the 06:15 to Manchester Victoria - the last steam working of this service. The 1934-built engine contrasts with the new British Rail "Corporate" livery. 45025 was withdrawn on 4th August 1968 after working one of the last railtours, but was purchased by Ted Watkinson for the Strathspey Railway at Aviemore, where it resides to this day.
The final curtain descends. Saturday 3rd August 1968 was the final day of revenue-earning steam workings on British Railways, with a series of tours the following Sunday and the "15 Guineas Special" on the 11th. The sun is setting - literally and metaphorically - as 45318 of Lostock Hall shed departs Preston with the 21:25 to Liverpool - the last steam-hauled timetabled passenger train on British Railways. Withdrawn the following week like the rest, 45318 was broken up in March 1969. Route: Steaming over Shap (Wotawallys Bits) Loco: Bossman Black 5
And the results are in! In third place with this fun shot of a cab-foward is OldAlaskaGuy . In second place, with this very well lit and composed shot of a pair of Big Boys, to me probably the best example of steams final years, is Blazin And, finally, in first place with this gorgeous far distance shot, is georgeuk90 . Love the sky, the smoke changing color, the train drawn out across a field, everything here is great. Congrats all! See you next week!
Thank you! https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/unofficial-screenshot-competition-week-3.88566/ New thread is up. Enjoy!
Many congrats georgeuk90 on a super shot, and to all for taking part in yet another week of eye candy for us to peruse.
