Unofficial TSC Screenshot Competition This is a fun and friendly alternative to the official Screenshot Competition run by DTG. Here you can share your weekly themed TSC screenshots using any 3rd party / post shot editing etc. creations which are not allowed in the official competition. Rules: • TSC only shots allowed. • Screenshot should be in some way (can be very tenuous) linked to the theme. Otherwise anything goes. • You can enter up to 3 screenshots, posted as separate posts. You can delete and replace if you wish. • 3rd party content / Reshades / Reskins etc. are welcomed but are not mandatory. • Previous week's winner to decide winner (can't enter themselves). • The winner chooses the new theme for next week (and becomes the new judge). • The Judge of the week's decision is final. • We strongly discourage any negative comment or criticism of another entry by a fellow contributor, this is a light hearted & fun contest! This is a major "we are all friendly" thread and we hope it will always remain so. • Please keep chat to an absolute minimum. Entries will close at 9PM GMT on Friday, September 6th, 2024 and will be judged by me - OldAlaskaGuy In the event of this weeks winner not responding by 17:00 on September 8th, 2024 a new thread will be created using the results of this weeks poll. The theme for this week is: Lumber and timber industry. Feel free to interpret the theme however you wish, any sort of open freight modern or retro, British, American or of any other nationality is okay. Good luck to all and enjoy the competition!
Back in the SP dyas, lumber drags were the famed trains that ran over the Black Butte subdivision. Nowadays, while the SP has gone and so has the designation of a "lumber drag," the main commodity hauled over the line remains lumber, as shown by this southward manifest entering Black Butte.. Route: UP Black Butte Subdivision Loco: UP AC4400CW
A bright crisp winter's morning sees 37099 "Merl Evans" just outside of Cardiff with a loaded rake of KSA-A timber wagons.
1. Take a massive piece of timber. 2. Hack at it like hell with a large Axe and Chainsaw. 3. Bingo! The Class 70 Loco body design is born. LOL It may not be the most aesthetically pleasing visual sight on the UK Rail Network, but it certainly serves it's purpose as a heavy freight hauler and in it's own way is quite an "In Your Face" addition to the UK freight network range of loco designs. 70804 is seen here just north of Carlisle with a heavy load of timber destined for Kronospan, Chirk.
A Clinchfield Railroad EMD SD40 trio slowly trundles through the forests of the Appalachian Mountains with a hopper train. It has been 2 years since I took this shot in 2022; wow how time flies! Motive Power: EMD SD40 Route: Clinchfield Railroad: Elkhorn City - St. Paul Scenario: N/A - Don't remember, it was one of the "Clinchfield Coal" 3 parter scenarios that comes with the route. Enhancements: Armstrong Powerhouse Sky & Weather Enhancement Pack 1.0, RW Enhancer 2
British Rail Class 47 '47065' pulls into a siding on the northern portion of the West Coast Main Line in Scotland on a cold Winters day awaiting faster trains to pass to continue its journey hauling a train of multiple logs! This is a shot I took quite a while ago as well definitely over a year back. Motive Power: British Rail Class 47 Route: West Coast Main Line North Scenario: Scots Pine Enhancements: Armstrong Powerhouse Sky & Weather Enhancement Pack 1.0, Armstrong Powerhouse Track Enhancement Pack, RW Enhancer 2, ReShade
A twin set of DB Class 440s of the Alstom Coradia Continental model form an 8 coach long train heading through the dense forests of the Nuremberg-Regensburg Railway on an RE service to Nuremberg Hbf in Bavaria, Germany. A nice pile of logs can be seen lying next to this lovely station surrounded by rich German vegetation. Motive Power: Alstom Coradia Continental Route: Nuremberg & Regensburg Bahn Scenario: [440] 1. Nuremberg RE Enhancements: Armstrong Powerhouse Sky & Weather Enhancement Pack 2.0 + Armstrong Powerhouse Cloud Enhancement Pack, RW Enhancer 2, ReShade
Sorry guys, I've not had chance to purchase the appropriate wagons (I've nothing with a timber load), fancy running this comp for another week as I was looking forward to showing off either JT's IGA's or MJW's KSA's
There are timber wagons in several core packs. The German ones, Alaska (pun not intended), and of course upon launching TSC this week I was smiling at the newest offering each time. Also several American packs, the SD45 low gondolas have timber loads, for example. If you merely want to shoot log piles (like Blazin's last), NS Coal District has one every other corner, and it's generic enough I guess that you can run anything on it. Sure, these are not 3rd party but it's not required to, and you can still use your fav loco. I'm assuming there are a few hours left due to OP's time zone so there is still some time for a staged shot or two.
Here be a lumber pile: NS Coal District, (Union Pacific's) United Way SD40-2, GP35 (from DD35 pack) and the hopper also from the DD35 pack.
Here are the wagon examples, I'm not even pretending this is an entry (technically why not, but...): Case in point, a nice loco in front and there you go. There are 3+ loads iirc.
Just to make it three and why not, there is another wagon I'm not even sure where from (probably marketplace). I was touring the Seebergbahn for coverage.
Just got up a bit ago and fired up the coffee pot, with the help of Mr.Coffee, let the cat out and sat down to peruse this week's entries. I am not only on Alaska time but old guy time as well. I was a bit concerned with the slow additions to this week's contest but they dropped at the last moment. So here we go........... Third place goes to Cragie-C for this haul of logs probably being sent to various pulp and lumber mills for various products. BTW at 76 I still cut down and split trees on my property and heat the house and shop during Winter with wood.
For second place.... This shot by Blazin on the Clinchfield. Lots of trees cleared by the MOW crew to keep the tracks clear.
And to mfeets, first place. UP 6023 leading a trail of wood products on the Black Butte Sub. BTW I just installed this route and the scenarios. Nice work. It's in your hands now.
Thanks for interjecting your comments on stock availability options. There is a lot of North American freeware at the http://golden-age-rails.com/ website and reskins at RWA.
I thought that I would give my take on this weeks contest. Logging camp with Slim gauge Porter and Shay. Locos: Machine Rail Porter, Britkits Shay Route: 1000nn narrow Gauge by Zawal
Loving that shot, that is certainly pushing the theme of timber to the absolute limit, just brilliant. Many thanks for the podium placing, and congratulations to the other winners, here's to next week
