Welcome to the Unofficial Screenshot Competition! This is a fun and friendly alternative to the official Screenshot Competition run by DTG. Theme for this week: Abandoned / Disused Our rules: Screenshot should be in some way (can be very tenuous) linked to the theme. You can enter up to 3 pictures, posted separately. You can delete and replace if you wish. TSC only shots allowed. 3rd party content, enhancement and artistic editing is accepted. Thread poster picks the podium and can't enter themselves. The decision is final. The winner chooses the new theme for next week and becomes its judge. We strongly discourage any negativity, this is a light hearted & fun contest! This is a major "we are all friendly" thread and we hope it will always remain so. Please keep chat to an absolute minimum. Entries close at Friday, November 3rd at 11pm EST and will be judged by me Saturday morning. In the event of this week's winner not responding by 8pm EST Sunday, November 5th, a new thread will be created with the theme of freestyle. Good luck to all, but most importantly, remember to have fun!
Route: Settle-Carlisle Train: Regional Railways Class 101. 101 655 passing one of the many sadly closed down stations on the line in the 1980s, headed for Leeds.
One could make a point that not only is this loading place abandoned, but the entire route - Rascal & Cottonwood. I just remembered this old shot, fitting the theme. That said, while it's possible to have a few nice shots about this route, it would be a challenge. (You take it?)
It is May 1965 and the "Port Road" is on its last legs. Palnure station has already closed as Stranraer "Black 5" 45115 races through with the afternoon Stranraer-Dumfries, comprising of two passenger carriages, 2 full brakes and an ex-Southern PMV - the rear three carriages being worked through on parcels trains. The "Port Road" would barely survive the month, being closed on 12th June 1965. Route: West of Scotland Lines - The Port Road Loco: BMG Domeless Black 5
Still in Scotland, by 1979 the line from Gretna to Annan had been reduced to a single track. Here, a Class 47 passes the site of the long-closed Rigg station with a Carlisle to Mossend freight. Route: WCML over Shap Loco: BR Blue Class 47 (Vulcan Productions)
A Manchester bound Class 506 exits the Woodhead Tunnel. (Woodhead in Blue DLC) This tunnel (Woodhead 3) opened in 1953, almost 100 years after Woodhead 2 Woodhead 1 + 2 (seen to the left) were closed in the same year as they were too narrow to take electrification. Sadly now the whole line is disused & abandoned.
Bennerley Viaduct, originally Ilkeston Viaduct and known informally as the Iron Giant, is a former railway bridge, now a foot and cycle bridge, between Ilkeston, Derbyshire, and Awsworth, Nottinghamshire, in central England. It was completed in 1877. Loco:- Ap Class 43 HST Route:- JT MML (Erewash Valley Extension)
An abandoned / disused ship lies beached on the North Wales Coastline as an Arriva Wales liveried 142 bounces past. Loco:- AP Class 142 Route:- NWC
8F 48151 Gauge 'O' Guild passes a pile of abandoned sleepers and rails. Loco:- Class 8F Route:- Harrogate Loop V2.2
Hello everyone! The results are in. Sorry for the late post, it's been a bit of a busy day! In 3rd place is I`m a railfan obviously with this awesome screenshot of an abandoned station building with a classic Regional Railways Class 101! I like the camera angle on this one. In 2nd place is cscarpenter with a super unique screenshot of an entire boat resting against the river bed! I love the uniqueness of the screenshot. And in 1st place is triznya.andras with this moody screenshot of an abandoned farming area and loading station! This may be one of the first times a screenshot with no train in it as won in this competition? I have been in this thread since 2022 and not the very beginning so I may be wrong. But I really loved this one because it gives off a moody atmosphere and really tells a story that this siding was once active and used. As someone who lives in a place with many surrounding abandoned railways and having visited some of them, this screenshot gives off the same feeling as when I visited those abandoned locations. The feeling of seeing a once used and active area now being reclaimed my nature is a feeling hard to describe and this screenshot really hits the mark there so well done! I'm looking forward to your chosen theme triznya.andras! Well done everyone, thank you for the submissions.
Thank you! I was hoping you'd like it Next thread is up, I was a bit funny with the theme. It's a bit early for winter colours. ps.: Oops, I forgot to say - congratulations to everyone, superb shots.
