Welcome to the Unofficial Screenshot Competition This is a fun and friendly alternative to the official Screenshot Competition run by DTG. Here you can share your weekly themed TSC screenshots using any 3rd party / post shot editing etc. creations which are not allowed in the official competition. Rules: • TSC only shots allowed. • Screenshot should be in some way (can be very tenuous) linked to the theme. Otherwise anything goes. • You can enter up to 3 screenshots, posted as separate posts. You can delete and replace if you wish. • 3rd party content / Reshades / Reskins etc. are welcomed but are not mandatory. • Previous week's winner to decide winner (can't enter themselves). • The winner chooses the new theme for next week (and becomes the new judge). • The Judge of the week's decision is final. • We strongly discourage any negative comment or criticism of another entry by a fellow contributor, this is a light hearted & fun contest! This is a major "we are all friendly" thread and we hope it will always remain so. • Please keep chat to an absolute minimum. Entries will close at 9PM GMT on Friday, November 29th 2024 and will be judged by me - Blazin In the event of this weeks winner not responding by 17:00 on December 1st, 2024 a new thread will be created using the results of this weeks poll. The theme for this week is: Short Lived Operators Feel free to interpret the theme however you wish. Good luck to all, but most importantly, remember to have fun.
Two for the price of one. The Midland Mainline franchise (owned by the UK transport company National Express) ran from 1996 - 2007. Whilst in September 2001 the company Carillion acquired the 51% of GT Rail Maintenance it did not already own, thereby creating Carillion Rail. Carillion Rail carried out track renewals on the rail network, and contract work for Network Rail. Carillion collapsed in 2018.
Created in 1994 another short lived operator was Mainline Freight who along with Transrail, Loadhaul and Rail Express Systems amalgamated in 1996 to become English Wesh & Scottish (EWS). Seen here is Mainline liveried 60044 snaking a rake of empty TDA oil tanks out of Bristol Parkway.
Lasting only 5 years from 1996 to 2001 Connex South Central did not have the most salubrious reputation for a TOC. Criticism of poor customer service and using old slam door rolling stock being the major complaints. However I do love to recreate that era with the stunning AP Class 411 seen here on a Bournemouth - London Victoria service.
Last minute added bonus shot:- Deadline has passed but was just running this scenario and realised that Loadhaul only existed for a couple of years from 1994 - 1996 before being gobbled up to be amalgamated into EWS. just thought I would share.
Sadly few submissions this week so apologies if my theme was a choice that was maybe too hard to get in TSC. Either way it's practically a 50/50 between the two contestants of this week Craigie-C and paulc so I would say that's pretty good odds in their favour. In 3rd Place is paulc with a nice shot of a Class 66 sweeping around a curve in Fastline livery which I reckon honestly suits the 66 very well! In 2nd Place is Craigie-C with a simple but well executed shot of a Mainline Freight train crossing over multiple tracks with many tanker wagons. I find short lived freight operators to be my favourite since they seem to be the least talked about so they're fun to learn about (UK wise at least). In 1st Place is another shot from Craigie-C with a brilliant shot of two relatively short lived / obscure operators! The lighting is lovely and I like the contrast of a high speed passenger train to slow traveling maintenance based train. I really like how unique the early Midland Mainline livery is and Carillion Rail is actually a UK rail company I've never even heard of before so this definitely is a winner for me! Thanks to Craigie-C and paulc for participating this week. I am looking forward to the theme for next week from you Craigie.
Cheers Blazin, must admit was a tad quiet this week but we occasionally do come across the odd week where some of us regulars are unable to post for whatever reason, I have been guilty myself of late. HEY HO on we go ................. New thread is up and running with the theme Hills & Valleys, good luck to all, can't wait to see your interpretations. https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/unofficial-screenshot-competition-week-49.87459/
Couldn't agree more. must admit I was a little bit miffed being beaten to the Fastline brand colour scheme , it does look pretty smart on the 66 and also the Class 56.
Haha sorry mate I was struggling for ideas & stumbled upon fastline! The subject of this comp was a struggle for me & I have been interested in railways since late 80's early 90's, probably best to keep the subject more broad & easy to figure out what shot might fit the theme, also this week has seen little in TSC time for me so thats not helped. When there is a subject I'm not sure about its often fun to research & find out what might fit the theme
