Welcome to the Unofficial Screenshot Competition This is a fun and friendly alternative to the official Screenshot Competition run by DTG. Here you can share your weekly themed TSC screenshots using any 3rd party / post shot editing etc. creations which are not allowed in the official competition. Rules: TSC only shots allowed. Screenshot should be in some way (can be very tenuous) linked to the theme. Otherwise anything goes. You can enter up to 3 screenshots, posted as separate posts. You can delete and replace if you wish. 3rd party content / Reshades / Reskins etc. are welcomed but are not mandatory. Previous week's winner to decide winner (can't enter themselves). The winner chooses the new theme for next week (and becomes the new judge). The Judge of the week's decision is final. We strongly discourage any negative comment or criticism of another entry by a fellow contributor, this is a light hearted & fun contest! This is a major "we are all friendly" thread and we hope it will always remain so. Please keep chat to an absolute minimum. Entries will close at 9:00 PM GMT on Friday, March 24th and will be judged by me - bellminsterboy In the event of this weeks winner not responding by 5:00 PM GMT Sunday, March 26th, a new thread will be created using the theme with the highest votes in this weeks poll. This weeks theme will be Scenic Railways - you are free to interpret this as you wish. An example photo has been provided below if you are stuck or need ideas. Good luck to you all.
This is an example shot only, in case you are stuck for ideas or need inspiration. It does not need to be a copy of this, you are free to interpret this however you like. Route: West Coast Main Line Over Shap
1) The Mosel Valley is certainly scenic. Steering away from one of the regular shots I opted for this view that still has it all: the valley, the vineyards, bushes, spruce, forsts, a village with a church, in pompous autumn colors. Meta: 20220904170339 - Coach Silberling DB Silver, BR E18 DB Green
2) A slightly less typical location on Soldier Summit that has it all: trains, trailers, poles, creek, foliage, bushy hills, rock faces. And two smiles in the leading cab. Metadata: 20220713172620 - Wagon Flat-TOFC UP, EMD DD35 UP, EMD SD40-2 UP-UnitedWay
3) Die Hauptstrecke an dem Main, the section between Köln and Koblenz being known to most everyone. While this shot doesn't capture the selling point - der Main, the Maine itself - I really like a few angles in this specific place with the long curving bridge. Metadata: 20220825150340 - BR 401 DB ICE --- Original - Didn't take long to change my mind. Leaving it here for fluff. 3) I might regret this one but for the time being I can't resist. Just a nice view from a Game of Gnomes scenario.
Route: Mosel Valley Koblenz-Trier Train: Rail Traction DB BR 648 this is personally one of my favourite routes in terms of scenery.
Not at all. If anything, the pixelated framing, but it's an important element of the composition. Okay if looking at the loco. Me likey.

At a slightly more suburban style scenic location, X marks the spot a pair of West Midlands commuter trains form a cross at Lichfield. A WMR Class 323 sits at Lichfield Trent Valley Station on the Cross City Line as a LNWR Liveried Class 350 arrives on the lower WCML Trent Valley Line.

Thank you everyone for your entries, this was really challenging to judge but I have come up with a top three. I will of course tell you who that is, but I'd like to give honorary mentions to the following, first: triznya.andras, for a vivid screenshot of the Mosel Valley in autumn, reminds me of a 'patchwork quilt'. and paulc, for his unique approach, featuring some stunning reflections on the Thames - we forget of course that cities are scenic too! It was completely different from all the other entries but was well executed and I really liked it. Podium In third place - Ardaeshir for a lovely atmospheric shot of these woodlands. I really liked the steam and the rustic nature of the setting. In second place - Pookeyhead, for this beautiful shot of the Woodhead Line, loved the light and the composition, showing off those lovely Pennine hills. And I hereby award first place to Blazin, for this cracking photograph of the Mittenwaldbahn. I really loved that the image had something of interest in every third of the image: the varied foliage, the way the train snakes through the trees and the light. All of that with the stunning backdrop of the Austrian Alps in the background just made this the one for me. Congratulations to all, and over to you Blazin! bellminsterboy out. *mic drop*. ;-)
Well done to Blazin & the other winners! Also thanks for the mention! I was just snapping away as my 66 headed through the capital & that was the result
Congratulations to the winners and thank you so much for 1st place! This week's theme will be "Trainspotters and Railfans". Have fun!! https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/unofficial-screenshot-contest-2023-week-13.68631/
Congratulations! Great screenshots from everyone. Lookin g forward to being more active in the next week's contest should I have more time.
Looks like I need to buy an 89 as I hear it includes some spotters, I know of 2J85 from ATS which features placed spotters in the scenario, do you know of any others Blazin??
Sorry if the theme is too specific. Here are some of the scenarios I can think off of that include trainspotters from memory. 2 scenarios that come with the LNER Peppercorn Class A2 'Blue Peter' DLC on Steam for the East Coast Main Line London-Peterborough route. The scenario "[A2 Blue Peter] 1. At the Starting Gate" has trainspotters at Peterborough and Hitchin. The scenario "[A2 Blue Peter] 2. The Second Leg" has trainspotters at Hitchin and King's Cross. There's also a scenario that comes with the North Somerset Railway route using a British Rail Class 117 called "[117] 1. A Very Special Day" that has lots of trainspotters at Radstock. You could also use the games build mode to make a quick scene with trainspotters if you want.
No need to be sorry at all, I was going to buy the Badger anyway & its on sale for £3.59 right now so an ideal time to get it Also I was gifted the A2 from someones Humble Bundle, this is a great opportunity to give it a go as I`ve never driven a kettle on TSC before, I`ll have a play about & see what I can come up with.
