Welcome to the Unofficial Screenshot Competition This is a fun and friendly alternative to the official Screenshot Competition run by DTG. Here you can share your weekly themed TSC screenshots using any 3rd party / post shot editing etc. creations which are not allowed in the official competition. Rules: TSC only shots allowed. Screenshot should be in some way (can be very tenuous) linked to the theme. Otherwise anything goes. You can enter up to 3 screenshots, posted as separate posts. You can delete and replace if you wish. 3rd party content / Reshades / Reskins etc. are welcomed but are not mandatory. Previous week's winner to decide winner (can't enter themselves). The winner chooses the new theme for next week (and becomes the new judge). The Judge of the week's decision is final. We strongly discourage any negative comment or criticism of another entry by a fellow contributor, this is a light hearted & fun contest! This is a major "we are all friendly" thread and we hope it will always remain so. Please keep chat to an absolute minimum. Entries will close at 09:00 PM GMT on Friday, February 24th and will be judged by me - Craigie-C In the event of this weeks winner not responding by 5:00 PM GMT Sunday, February 26th, a new thread will be created using the theme with the highest votes in this weeks poll. This weeks theme will be Bridges, Feel free to interpret the theme however you like!

A few shots from my pool to add more life to this thread. Five, sorry. Could just keep 1-3-5 but I don't want / expect to win anyway. So, just enjoy! Approaching Durham North London Line Hell Gate Bridge in New York After Strood, guess it's Chatham proper, on London-Faversham. Settle-Carlisle
Route: Washington to Baltimore Locomotive: [WB] Acela Express This was the first screenshot I uploaded on this website (around 1 year ago), and this is my 5th time uploading it into a contest. I wonder if I should do a remake with higher graphics.
It is nice in many aspects, I certainly like its mood. It's not the dominant setting, but variety is important, too. One practical thing with all of your shots is the lack of headlights. Camera 2 is also often off of a proper composition, putting the loco in the dead center of the picture. Zoom is a double edged sword, I did like the snaking train both of your official thread shots, but the scenery was very lacking. People often like to marvel at modeling details, special liveries, stuff like that. I also just do standard trains. You might also want to get more involved with discussions and giving some likes, be part of the community, get noticed in a good way. Overall, though, what I like to do is keep shooting, make sure to only keep relatively few (the best), while also getting inspired by photo streams. Your skills will keep improving and things will click eventually. Also, while it's certainly nice to get a couple pats here, on the long run the main point of capturing these is to create memories for the future self. Virtual holiday, virtual railfanning.
Thanks a lot! I probably need to use more pausing to take screenshots because it's not very easy to take pictures of moving trains, and thanks for the tip to use headlights! I almost never do night time running, so I figured I never needed headlights! Thank you for all the tips!
Route: Sherman Hill Locomotives: GE ES44DC+GE ES44AC A lot of freight trains leaving and entering Sherman Hill, BNSF line and UP line.
For me that's an essential tool. Finding the angle, letting the train move a tiny bit ahead maybe, stuff like that. Real life photography is often the same, you set up the angle, then rapid shoot when the train comes. In this sense, good old photos show a bit more skill. No rapid fire on film Except for standing still trains, of course.
Trundling across the Tees Viaduct. Loco:- BR Standard 4 with Gresley Coaches Route:- Stainmore, Shap & the Eden Valley
An intermodal with a 66 at the helm heads towards Hartford traveling over Vale Royal viaduct over the river Weaver.
Hi all, tis the time for Judges to stand up and be seen to be Judging, so without further ado I hereby award. 3rd place to cscarpenter for this gorgeous shot taken on the Stainmore route. The detail on that bridge is phenomenal with the intricate cabling being routed along the side. The honour of 2nd place and runner up goes to I'm a railfan obviously for this stunning multiple reflection shot. And last but certainly not least I award the elusive 1st place trophy to Blazin for this amazing multiple bridge shot.of a high speed class 395. Everything about this capture is just spot on, the angle chosen shows the gradient of the climb, lighting is just gorgeous, and as for hitting the brief ? how many bridges? Well done terrific shot. The golden Master Key is heading south as i type. Congratulations Blazin, looking forward to your theme for next week.
Congratulations to the other winners and thank you very much for the 1st place spot, I am very grateful. Here is the new thread, the theme is Billboards and Signs! Have fun! https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/unofficial-screenshot-contest-2023-week-9.65432/
