Welcome to the Unofficial Screenshot Competition
This is a fun and friendly alternative to the official Screenshot Competition run by DTG.
Here you can share your weekly themed TSC screenshots using any 3rd party / post shot editing etc. creations which are not allowed in the official competition.
    Rules:
    • TSC only shots allowed.
    • Screenshot should be in some way (can be very tenuous) linked to the theme. Otherwise anything goes.
    • You can enter up to 3 screenshots, posted as separate posts. You can delete and replace if you wish.
    • 3rd party content / Reshades / Reskins etc. are welcomed but are not mandatory.
    • Previous week's winner to decide winner (can't enter themselves).
    • The winner chooses the new theme for next week (and becomes the new judge).
    • The Judge of the week's decision is final.
    • We strongly discourage any negative comment or criticism of another entry by a fellow contributor, this is a light hearted & fun contest! This is a major "we are all friendly" thread and we hope it will always remain so.
    • Please keep chat to an absolute minimum.
Entries will close at 9:00 PM GMT on Friday, February 9th 2024 and will be judged by me - don237

In the event of this weeks winner not responding by 5:00 PM GMT Sunday, February 11th, a new thread will be created using the theme with the highest votes in this weeks poll.
Theme for this week : "Rarely Seen Places"
Feel free to interpret the theme however you wish.
Good luck to all, but most importantly, remember to have fun.

That’s a shame, it’s great to see your screenshots every week. Hopefully there’s next week for you to get involved though on possibly a less country-specific theme. :)

Afraid I am sadly also going to have give this week a miss, the only DLC I own which is not UK, USA, German or Austrian is Swiss, and they are all DTG Vanilla routes and locos which is the total opposite of why this thread was created, to show off our non-DTG DLC. Hopefully see you all next week.

Oh, I'm sorry you two. I at first wanted to make it a "Freeware" week, but i thought it would be fun with a twist. Maybe too much then. But i like the screenshots already posted and it's nice to see something like the South African route, this is also what i had hoped for.

And maybe people can show some of the eastern european payware stuff too, there is actually quite a lot of it. And freeware mods from the more regional forums from Spain, Italy and so on.

ha, Swiss wasn't an oversight but Canada was :D

It’s a shame to not see you either this week. But I disagree, I don’t think the point of this thread is to show off non-DTG DLC anymore. It’s a thread that is much more relaxed from the official contest and allows much more freedom for enhancements, freeware, things like that and just to have some general fun. It isn’t just about non-DTG DLC. I use plenty of DTG stock but I like this competiton because I can use my graphics enhancements and it feels more relaxed. It’ll be good if you go for those Swiss screenshots, for something unique and different. It’s also worth mentioning that those Swiss routes aren’t even made by DTG, they are mostly by Rivet Games and therefore technically third party and are excellent to play in my opinion. But you don’t have to if you don’t want to, it’s your choice and that’s just my suggestion. And as don237 mentioned there is plenty of off-Steam content that fits the theme, a lot being freeware and therefore non-DTG stock that you can show off. Anyway, see you next week hopefully. :)

However for the future though, I do recommend less country specific themes and things like that. It’s fantastic for something different, but you can get something different without narrowing it down and alienating lots of players. In my opinion, general themes that can usually fit any place are the best to go with but that’s just my thoughts. :D
But oh well, there’s always next week so not to worry!

Should i open up the theme a little? I could call it something like "exotic routes" or something ... but including the more common countries.

It was of course never the purpose to exclude anyone. Maybe just to go through our library and see what be bought at some point but maybe have not visited in a long time.

Part of the rule of this competition is to make it fun, and without criticism. Completely understand the frustrations of (probably) the two most decorated and skilled screenshotters in this entire forum; I am also going to struggle for choice outside of the French LGV and Gotthard route; but I wouldn't change it personally now - you've made a decision, stick by it. Not all of us can compete every week, there are some weeks I don't have anything that will fit the theme, but I still enjoy looking at what is posted. Use this as a learning experience - there's a whole range of themes that are less restrictive, like liveries, or third-party DLC, or night time, but it's your decision, your theme - own it :)

Yeah, i take this as a learning experience and i'm going to change the title to "Rarely Seen Places".
So there is room for interpretation and people may still have to go through their collection to look for something unusual :)

Overall, no worries, i sometimes try a little too hard to find something "special".

And remember, you can edit your already posted screenshots ;)

I completely agree here. Themes should be as general and as open as general to interpretation as possible but seeing as it's your first time don237 please don't feel hard on yourself. Even as a multi-week winner not too long ago I made the same mistake with a restrictive theme despite participating for around a year by that point. We all make mistakes, and even so your theme was still good for those who had DLC to use, it had more submissions than my poor theme a while ago had. It's a good thing even though you changed the theme you at least had enough to decide a top 3 anyway!

Anyway, I hope the others enjoy the changed, but similar theme that is less restrictive. I'll still keep my screenshots up as I still think they fit the changed theme as these are places rarely seen in this game as not many people play / post screenshots of these routes. :D

Now I suggest since all is said and done we continue with screenshots and keep the chat based posts to a minimum for this week until the winner is announced, it has already been clogged up quite a bit by our discussion about the theming here but should hopefully be solved. :)

In the striking Austrian scenery, this bridge and tunnel combination are largely hidden from view, as they pale in comparison to the great towering mass of the mountains. The daily ICE service to Innsbruck over the Mittenwaldbahn exits the tunnel and crosses the graceful bridge on its final leg of the journey.

A Class 57 in the dark West Coast Railways maroon livery descends from the South Downs on a railtour to Portsmouth. As it does so, it passes a small lineside hut, formerly quite commonplace in Britain; but with a speed of 95 mph, blink and you miss it.

60529 "Pearl Diver" calls at York with the "Aberdonian". York at this hour is rarely seen, as the passengers are almost all asleep.

Yes, it was nice to see some less promoted content. At least for me, as I like the exploration part of the game.
