Welcome to the Unofficial Screenshot Competition This is a fun and friendly alternative to the official Screenshot Competition run by DTG. Here you can share your weekly themed TSC screenshots using any 3rd party / post shot editing etc. creations which are not allowed in the official competition. Rules: • TSC only shots allowed. • Screenshot should be in some way (can be very tenuous) linked to the theme. Otherwise anything goes. • You can enter up to 3 screenshots, posted as separate posts. You can delete and replace if you wish. • 3rd party content / Reshades / Reskins etc. are welcomed but are not mandatory. • Previous week's winner to decide winner (can't enter themselves). • The winner chooses the new theme for next week (and becomes the new judge). • The Judge of the week's decision is final. • We strongly discourage any negative comment or criticism of another entry by a fellow contributor, this is a light hearted & fun contest! This is a major "we are all friendly" thread and we hope it will always remain so. • Please keep chat to an absolute minimum. Entries will close at 9PM GMT on Friday, August 9th 2024 and will be judged by me - I'm a railfan obviously In the event of this weeks winner not responding by 17:00 on August 11th, 2024 a new thread will be created using the results of this weeks poll. The theme for this week is: "What a beautiful train..." Feel free to interpret the theme however you wish. Good luck to all, but most importantly, remember to have fun.
Example shot: What I mean by that theme is trains that either look nice in a picture or in genereal, but feel free to interpret it how you like.
The prettiest loco with the most attractive coaches - part I The loco is a Claud with the Gresley modifications (LNER/BR D16) and the coaches are Gresley teaks. The location is just East of March station, deep in the fens.
The prettiest loco with the most attractive coaches - part II Having left March station we pass the March South signal box with its helpful directions!
The prettiest loco with the most attractive coaches - part III Crossing just North of Wimblington station - a fenland symphony of loco, teaks and agriculture!
I love the special Olympic edition NSE livery & red Royal Mail combo, Here 87012 heads south to Wembly Railnet terminal seen here just south of Rugby. DTG WCML South AP 87 + 325.
90044 in the rather beautiful Freightliner Orange livery looking fresh out the paintshop heading north up the Trent Valley. AP90 WCML Trent Valley.
From an era when the UK could definitely claim to have beautiful trains, Light Pacific (West Country Class) 34105 "Swanage" with a beautifully built rake of Pullman carriages, is captured at Corfe Castle with the castle ruins framed by the smoke
And while we are on the subject of Pullmans and Castles ............ the current day Class 43 HST Midland Pullman, and Conwy Castle on the North Wales Coastal Line, make for a pretty beautiful collage of new and old, each with their own definition of beauty. Beautiful Train, Beautiful Castle...... Who could want for more? OK I will stop begging it, as of immediately. LOL [EDIT] Thanks for the heads up on my dodgy skyline on my previous shot Spikee1975 much appreciated. You can get so focused on the train and can easily miss background detail, cheers. .
One of my favorite trains is the Southern Pacific Daylight. It is seen here at the Colfax station on Donner Pass on an excursion run.
A beautifully preserved DR BR 86 is snapped between Bonn and Köln, stopping at all main stations on the way.
E03-001 with a beautiful rake of Trans Europ Express coaches in tow, back in the day when luxury train travel was the thing.
Not sure what the exact definition of "A Beautiful Train" is, but this must come damn close. Loco:- Coronation Class 6221 "Queen Elizabeth" Route:- Settle - Carlisle.
I don't know why but sometimes in the editor when moving a consist it will turn things wrong way round. Thanks for the heads up.
A beautiful modern and sleek train in the form of two Southeastern Class 365s '395029' and '395025' coupled to form 12 coach service 1F52 headed east to Ramsgate, England in the United Kingdom passes by the derelict and run down halt platform at Hoo Junction Yard on a lovely Autumn evening. Motive Power: British Rail Class 395 Route: Chatham Main Line: London Victoria & Blackfriars - Dover & Ramsgate Scenario: 02. [395] 1F52 1755 St Pancras International to Ramsgate Enhancements: Armstrong Powerhouse Sky & Weather Enhancement Pack 2.0 + Armstrong Powerhouse Cloud Enhancement Pack, Armstrong Powerhouse Track Enhancement Pack, Armstrong Powerhouse Vegetation Enhancement Pack, Armstrong Powerhouse Signal Enhancement Pack, ReShade
It's status as a beautiful train may be arguable for some; but you cannot deny that the Aerotrain design of the 1950s was incredibly sleek and a very different look on trains for the time and as a whole! It's a shame it didn't end up working very well though but it was a very interesting look at the desperate attempts a few railroads took to get passengers out of their cars and back onto trains. Here we see Pennsylvania Railroad EMD LWT12 '1001' leading a westbound Aerotrain passenger service to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the United States of America with 9 of the specialised Aerotrain coaches behind during a cold 1956 Winters day on the PRR Main Line. Motive Power: EMD LWT12 Route: Horseshoe Curve Scenario: 02. Aerotrain to Pittsburg Part 2 Enhancements: Armstrong Powerhouse Sky & Weather Enhancement Pack 2.0 + Armstrong Powerhouse Cloud Enhancement Pack, ReShade
I absolutely love the design of the early ICE sets; I think they look awesome! Here we see Deutsche Bahn Class '401 059-1' at the lead of a 12 coach long ICE 1 set with '401 559-1' at the rear of the train traversing the Ruhr-Sieg Railway in North-Rhine Westphalia, Germany as the set conducts a speed test with heightened speed limits on the line to undergo a trial on how fast the ICE 1 can travel from Siegen Hbf to Hagen Hbf during a late Summers afternoon during 2000 with the impressive Altena Castle seen in the background. I love the composition and the castle but it looks over-exposed? Or are they really that blindingly white?
Thank you but no, I seriously doubt it’s that bright in real life. Under certain conditions my TSC setup can often make white trains absurdly bright under certain sunlit conditions; depending on the DLC as seen above the Aerotrain was mostly fine. The ICE 1 for my game is an extreme example of what I sometimes experience with white trains as when sunlight is over the side of the train it can be so bright it effectively unbrands the “ICE” logo from the side! Other ICE units such as the ICE 2 haven’t had major problems like this though so I’m not really sure what’s up with the original ICE 1 but oh well.
No need to apologize, both comments were helpful and both pictures got fixed / improved. Community over competition. I suppose this pack tried to offset darkness of old TSC weather (and minimal glossiness). This is what I call "design for engine". I have also changed my light levels recently a bit, and have a similar effect.
I was playing the challenger steam loco on Sherman hill last night and noticed in the HUD the tender was ahead of the engine but gameplay was normal engine then tender
Alright, everyone! This week's shots were absolutely superb and had a very hardd time deciding my favourites. Well I guess we should start with the judging of our beatiful locomotives. 5th place cunningn#3154! This aborable LNER D16, was a pretty good pick for this week's theme and also the scenery really adds to it. Well done! 4th place Cscarpenter! What a beauty! This coronation class really is a nice looking train and let's not forget the matching coaches and the great angling. very well done! 3rd place OldAlaskaGuy! I have always liked the SP Daylight. As a child I have seen it in so many videos and have always wondered what its name is. i'm also congratulating you on your great composition aswell! 2nd place paulc! Looking resplendent Indeed! The Blue Peter has always been an absolutely beautiful locomotive and the angling and the positioning of the sun really makes this staement true! 1st place Blazin! You really had me with this one. The way the camera is positioned makes the ICE 1 look even better than usual and let's not forget the inclusion of the castle really adding to the atmosphere. The nagling of the camera is absolutely and just the overall composition. Absolutley superb! The golden master key is yours Blazin! Take us to a new adventure! Honorable mentions: Blazin: Craigie-C: And PhÜnKî_Rø0sTā: Thank you all for participating! You all had some absolutely great pictures and I would honestly give you all first place but that's just not fair . Just remember: Because you weren't mentioned or in the podium doesn't mean your picture is awful!
Congratulations to the other winners and thank you very much for 1st place! I'll have the new thread up soon.
New thread is up; with the theme of Trains that just won't kick the bucket! https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/unofficial-screenshot-competition-week-33.83483/ Put this under the post for a more clear look at what the core idea of this theme is, however as usual free free to play around with it however you like: "I consider this theme to be very open to interpretation so you don't have to follow my example here but what I sort of mean by this at the core relates to types of trains, or maybe single locomotives that have continued service life for a long time; outliving other models through the years, being used much longer than expected, or maybe to get specific trains that are the last of their type in service or trains that were thought to be written off after large issues such as accidents but returned to service despite immense damage. Feel free to play with the theme however you see fit. "
Thank you for a place on the podium. Good work by all. I have noticed a lot of improvement in the past few weeks.
Thanks for the mention, and I echo the above comment from OldAlaskaGuy, great work from all concerned, and congrats Blazin on yet another great winning contribution.
