What exactly IS the up big boy? Can we have pictures? Information? Route it'd be on? Scenarios? Services? Giving us a name really means nothing to anyone so please add further detail.

This is a pointless request even though i know what the bigboy is not every one dose. you should be aming to sell this idea to the community as well as dtg. most people are not going to be bothered to look up what this is.

UP's massive Big Boys (there were 25 of these monsters) were some of the largest steam locomotives in the world. They were a bit over 132 feet long and weighed over a million pounds. They could handle freight trains at 70mph. They were used by UP to pull heavy freights over Sherman Hill between Cheyenne and Laramie, Wyoming and the Wasatch Grade between Green River, Wyoming and Ogden, Utah. UP restored Big Boy #4014 to operational status. The restoration was completed in May of 2019. The Big Boys would be an awesome addition to the Sherman Hill route and #4014 also could be used on Cajon Pass or other US routes in excursion services.

Actually, the Big Boy is quite famous and thus giving a name does really mean something to quite a few people.

Yeah here in the US the Big Boy is the US freight equivalent to UK Flying Scotsman as far as railfan love/notoriety goes. Would definitely love it if we got the Big Boy when devs get around to a US steam locomotive in tsw.

Yeah I guess but I feel like that dosen't really negate my point - All suggestions in general need more information regardless of how famous it is.

Fair point. Fun fact for the Big Boy locomotive: it is only locomotive to use the 4-8-8-4 wheel configuration. Also they went into production right as US was entering WW2 in anticipation of increased need for material to support the war effort.

I somehow doubt TSW steam physics, which are at best kindly described as arcade like, would cope with the complexity of one of these beasts, magnificent though they would be over Sherman, Cajon or even crushing the track on Cane Creek!

Bit of a necro above, and with DTG announcing their hiatus on steam loco development think we can take it as read something as complex as the Big Boy will never happen in TSW now.

Exactly! DTG have said no to any more steam and even if they do relent, the Big Boy would be massively complex to try and simulate assuming the core remains unchanged.

    Wishful thinking I'm afraid.

I love when people talk about the Big Boy like it's something Great all because of its Length which isn't exactly that long to be honest as many other Steam Engines were close to the length of her. One stands out more than any other which fans of the Big Boy will argue isn't a Steam Engine at all, but looking at the status of what makes a Steam Engine a Steam Engine most can argue that the Big Boy isn't a Massive Monster next to the
    Norfolk and Western 2300
    Baldwin 6-6-6-6-4500/1-TE
    Jawn Henry

which is 100% a Steam Engine only she's producing Electricity for her Traction Motors that her Piston cranks power into. Jawn henry total Length was 161 ft 1+1⁄2 in (49.11 m) compared to Big Boy 132 ft 9+1⁄4 in (40.47 m)

    Screenshot (1229).png f119531b713fc3e95cffcab2721ec174.jpg

Now I could see DTG making her more so than the Big Boy only because the Jawn Henry doesn't have all the massive outer workings going on, the only drawl back for a Loco like this is Nobody knows what she Sounds like Running and what the Bell Whistle sounded like.

But it's fun to mess around and just image ha-ha, don't take this post Serious as it's meant to be a Joke

How many handles does it have? If it has more than one handle to both accelerate and brake, then I think you might be out of luck! ;)

Funny you should ask, cab views of it are no different from looking like a Steam Engine like the Big Boy ha-ha
