Steam Up Heritage Pack; Cannot Insert Reverser Handle With Reverser Set To Reverse

I accidentally removed the reverser handle with the reverser still set to reverse. Now I cannot insert the handle again and am unable to progress with the scenario 'Circle of Celebration'.
