Hello. I have been sent here via steam support because they seem to think the problem is related to the game and not steam.

I can't update tsw4 as the update continuously tries to download to a folder called downloads on a different drive to the install folder. This drive E: is full so the update fails.
I've gone through several steps to try and correct this but nothing seems to work. So far i have moved the game to another drive F: removed the drive E: that Is full from steam and deleted everything in it.
as soon as the update started it created the downloads folder in E: again and downloaded the update. So i re installed flight simulator to drive E: then a few days later another update was required by tsw4 and failed because of insufficient space.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled tsw4 twice now to drive C: 500gb free space and drive F: 300gb free space and it downloads, installs and plays until the next update then you guessed it, this fails due to insufficient space on drive E:

I've used 1tb of data this month uninstalling and re downloading tsw4 and msfs to the point now my internet bandwidth is being severly throttled by my isp due to some fair usage policy and still no better off.

Is there a solution to this problem please?

The only solution to the problem I've found is to move the tsw installation to drive E: If anybody has this problem in the future.

    Hello there,

I'm sorry you're having to deal with this issue, let me try and help you.
If I understood correctly, Steam tries to download the update to a different drive than TSW is installed on. Is this the case for all games or only TSW? I see you mentioned Flight Sim as well, is this also affected by this?
My first instinct was to ask if the harddrive that has TSW installed has enough room, but it looks like you've emptied that drive completely but it still happens. As far as I know, Steam automatically downloads temporary update files to different drives if there is not enough room on the original one.

I can't make any promises, but I'll see if I can find a solution, unless someone else in the community has encountered something similar and can provide a tip?

    All the best,
    Jan

    Hello. Thanks for responding.

The problem I was having was with TSW4 only. TSW3 was installed on the same drive and updated ok.
TSW4 was installed on drive C: and Flight simulator was installed on drive E: Drive E: was dedicated to Flight simulator only.
So the problem I had was a update came for TSW4 and it failed due to insufficient space. At first I thought it was because there was only 60gb free on drive C: Update was 40gb. So I deleted some games from drive C: but the update still failed.

Later that day I tried to play flight simulator and it kept crashing. Eventually it loaded but said the rolling cache was disabled due to insufficient space. After some looking around on drive E: I found the folder called downloading, so i deleted this folder and Flight simulator was back to normal for a while.
Then it crashed again and I found the downloading folder had been created again and this is when i realised TSW4 had tried to update again.

At first I contacted Microsoft as Flight simulator comes from Xbox game pass but I noticed the installation had created a steam directory when it installed. Microsoft said this is normal as the game actually comes from steam and not the Microsoft store. And suggested I contact Steam support.

Steam run through some steps with me. First I removed drive E: as a steam directory in the settings then set drive C: as the default drive in steam settings but the problem still remained. I installed a new hard drive and set this as the default drive in steam settings but the problem still remained. I then moved TSW4 and some other games from C: to the new drive F: But TSW4 was still downloading to E:
I then wiped drive E: and TSW4 updated successfully. So I installed Flight simulator to drive E: again and all was good until another update was released for TSW4 then back to square one.

So i deleted TSW4 and re installed to drive C: and was back to the updating problem again. Uninstalled TSW4 and reinstalled to drive F: no change. So eventually I realised the best course of action would be to move Flight simulator to drive C: and move TSW4 to drive E:

So far so good. I don't know what the problem is, Microsoft, Steam, TSW4 or my pc possibly. But it seems that steam is working fine, any updates I've had for all my other games have downloaded to the drive they are installed on.

What I did notice is that every time I install TSW4, after the installation is completed it then proceeds to download updates? Shouldn't the updates be part of the game installation?

I'm going to do a refresh on my pc once my internet bandwidth is back to normal. Hopefully this will solve it.

    Many thanks.

you probably needed even more free space
if an update is like 10gb download it needs another 10gb free to unpack it
so to download and install 10gb you need 20gb free space

I made plenty of space available but this didn't change anything.

Yes I had the same for msfs now tsw4 has taken over it and it's working. Not ideal though.

I'm gonna re install windows and everything soon.

And I don't use antivirus software. Only what's built into windows.
