This is a plain and simple question I've had after doing work in the editor. Do people need a lot of services if the DLC comes with a lot of scenarios? For example, if a real-life timetable only includes two services and that is replicated in TSW, would you buy it if the DLC also came with a good amount of scenarios? An additional question for the comments, if a loco DLC came with a lot of scenarios, would you want them all to be on a single map or spread out across a few? An example of that question would be if a loco came out for Cajon Pass, would you also want scenarios for Sherman Hill or would you only want them on Cajon Pass?
Based on what most people say, a hefty timetable is more enjoyable to them, and one thing they put as being better than TSC in regards to gameplay, so a smaller timetable for more scenarios probably wont bode well for the TSW crowd. EDIT: However, TSW does US freight terrible in timetables, as all freight types use 1 identical consist for all trains of that type and always loaded. Scenarios are usually better in this regard, though it depends on who builds the scenario.
A good timetable is and always will be the king. Most scenarios are not very good and I've started to actively avoid them after LRS.
Personally i dont care about the routes scenarios, the Timetable offers way better gameplay as it includes layers etc. But then i prefer european routes which have a fuller and more varied Timetable by nature. For US routes i think services should be realistic, but then not all routes are suited to be represented in a Trainsim. Noone wants a route where you can drive the daily train and thats it.
It wouldn't bother me if there were 0 scenarios. Timetable is all I care about, and all I play other than the Tutorials and Route Introduction.
I enjoy the randomness of Quick Play so scenarios are important to me. However with mods like the excellent one that puts a 700 on the BML with lots of ai 700's too, then timetable is also vital, so lots of each for me.
The hand holding, everything has to be done in a specific order, and the absolutely guaranteed missing instructions make scenarios a poor playing experience for me. Timetable is the only thing I play regularly. It’s better even if some of the fancy extras that can be put into scenarios are missing. Good scenarios play their part but it’s such an old fashioned way of train simulation and often badly done in TSW. Some DLCs have horrendously bad scenarios, such as the loco pack that came out for Cajon Pass. Nothing was right with any of the scenarios in that and it came with nothing added to the timetable. That was a horror show and such a disappointment.
I like both scenarios and timetables ..the scenarios i like those for some hand holding esp if it is a new locomotive to learn doing step by step instructions guidance. Till i get on to operating correctly...i have noticed as mentioned above sometimes some of the steps are left out causes confusion at time can cause somthing not to complete when leave a step out ..maybe for others that know what to do they can add a option to turn the hand holding steps off
Can’t recall the last time I ran a scenario. And when I do, I always manage to find the bugged one. Services are my jam.
I wouldn’t care if scenarios disappeared. Most are a glorified timetable service any way. A lot don’t meet the expectation of what is actually described and some are incredibly boring to say the least.
That's a valid point. IK rather enjoy scenarios that have you do something unusual and interesting. But if it's nothing but a standard timetable with a couple of notional objectives added, then it's something between a waste and a ripoff.
Scenarios are there to give you a different than your everyday timetable service experience. I love good scenarios.
I really enjoy the scenarios as NO they are not all glorified timetable services, many are very good and have multiple goals to achieve and can include all manner of unusual things from helping a farmer to round up his cows that have strayed onto the ECML, deal with freak weather and a fallen tree on the track, or assist with a broken down train etc. Services are the ones that just drive from A to B.
A Good Mix is what I like and would like more of. And as well as well-made community content, I know this is a bit off-topic, but I am currently running about 200 mods, which includes some of your's space#1043 and that is why I say "well-made community content" in reality and honestly, it's the community made content that makes this game so much better.
