DTG announced the return of steam locomotives in TSW6 with the Neckartalbahn and the BR Class 23. They also announced that steam traction in game would be getting some upgrades to make steam locos better in game. With those announcements, what cool steam locos and routes could we get in the next few years? As an American, I would like to suggest some steam loco ideas that could be included with existing or new routes in the future. -Existing Routes: -Cajon Pass: -ATSF 4-8-4 #3751 pack with FP45, C44-9W, or P42DC and passenger cars for 1990s-present day excursion trains -SP GS-4 #4449 pack; also include excursion passenger cars; also, BNSF and American Freedom Train liveries too -UP #844, #4014, and #3985 too -ATSF 4-8-4s: 3751, 3765, and 3776-Classes; 2900-Class also; #2926, #3759, and a few others preserved -ATSF 2-10-2 -ATSF 2-10-4 Texas: 5000 "Madame Queen;" 5001-Class; 5011-Class: several preserved -Sherman Hill: -UP Big Boy: include restored #4014 w/ SD70M helper and excursion passenger cars; also freight cars for 1940s-50s operations -UP Challenger: including #3985 restored version and also greyhound versions too; include freight cars too -UP FEFs: include greyhound and black versions; #844 in grey and black liveries; with and without MARS Light -UP 4-12-2 UP-Class: massive 3-Cylinder beasts from the 1920s-30s; include period freight equipment too -UP 2-10-2 TTT-Class: another big freight hauler for UP; include freight cars too -Horseshoe Curve: -B6sb 0-6-0 Switcher: for yard duties -H10 2-8-0 Consolidation: for local and yard duties -K4s 4-6-2 Pacific: common passenger power for the PRR; often double or triple-headed -L1 2-8-2 Mikado: for heavy freight services -I1 2-10-0 Decapod: nicknamed "Hippos," these were used for heavy freight and helper services; not a very popular model on the Pennsy (or other RRs either) -M1/M1a/M1b 4-8-2 Mountain: designed for both freight and passenger services; PRR used these mostly for freight -J1a 2-10-4; based on a C&O wartime design; used for heavy freight trains -Duplexes: -S1 Prototype: the largest steam loco ever built at a whopping 140' long!; not so successful because it was so big -T1: fairly successful, but with wheelslip and other teething issues; #5550 to be completed in 2030 or so; should be added to game -Q1 Prototype: unsuccessful due to positioning of rear drivers and cylinders; only one built -Q2: a larger version of the T1; more successful; also the most powerful steam loco ever built at over 7000HP!; often used in freight services -S2 Steam Turbine Prototype: not so successful, but way cool with the turbine whine instead of the chuff sounds of a standard steam loco -Sand Patch Grade: -B&O EM-1 2-8-8-4 Yellowstone: for heavy freights over the line -B&O 2-10-2: more heavy freight services -B&O 4-6-2 Pacific: for passenger trains -New Routes: -SP Donner Pass, Mount Shasta Line, or Tehachapi Pass: -AC-Class 4-8-8-2 Cab Forwards: Backwards steam locos; designed for use in tunnels and snowsheds over Donner Pass -4-10-2: big 3-cylinder locos; for helper services and heavy freights -2-10-2: also for heavy freights and helper services -AC-9 2-8-8-4 Yellowstones: for long freights on some SP lines, especially the SP Sunset Route -SP Peninsula Corridor: -GS-Class 4-8-4s -4-6-2s Pacifics -4-8-2 Mountains
I don't know much about American steam but would definitely love to see some. Especially some oil burners, would be something different. As for the location I find most American railroads rather interesting, I couldn't say I have a preference.
