I'm still hoping that Steam is coming back someday, a Train Simulator should include every type of traction. Since the UK already got 4, I would like a german loco next, probably a BR 52 or a BR 01 with some historic coaches for Steam Railtours.

If (and it’s a big if), DTG did dust off steam traction then for the UK something GWR (or BR Western) with the Riviera Line from Exeter to Kingswear would be an iconic project.

But I fear the money men at DTG and Focus HQ’s have decreed steam is dead for all time, Just churn out generic UK and German electric routes either in house or docile third parties.

I'll throw in the german class 99.77-79 (750 mm gauge 2-10-2T built in the 1950s) and the Lößnitzgrundbahn (Radebeul Ost-Radeburg) or Weißeritztalbahn (Freital Hainsberg-Kurort Kipsdorf) to go alongside the already existing saxon narrow gauge infrastructure and rolling stock in the game.

I wonder if there's more scope for steam on mixed traffic routes? For example I know a lot of the southern region was electrified but there were still steam engines running the light branch line services relatively late and doing other work so you could easily have Thumpers running alongside some steam locomotives? I wonder if that'd scratch more of an itch. But then I suppose the issue with that is that you'd have to have more than one loco and it'd be a totally new region.

DTG need to crawl before they try to walk, and walk before they run. A big articulated monster (with late-steam systems like superheat, economizers and helper engines) is way, way too complicated for a first effort. Something like a USRA Mikado would be far more realistic

Having seen the player stats on the steam platform this evening and noticing more people still play TSC than TSW, I wonder if that’s because that sim has a wonderful selection of steam locos to choose from.

Its more likely because TSC is older and therefore had an established playerbase before TSW was conceived.

Tsc also has the advantage that it has a much wider selection on routes and Rollingstock.
