I am just about to purchase the Glasgow Suburban route in the Steam sale. I have noted that some people who have the route suggest that the 320 unit that comes with it should ideally be replaced by the Armstrong Powerhouse one (currently in AP's sale). What I don't understand is whether the AP unit, if bought, would then automatically supercede the DTG one in career and workshop scenarios, or whether it can really only be used in Quick Drive, or whether perhaps specific steps have to be taken to ensure that it replaces the other one in scenarios. Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Hi there, the AP version doesn’t automatically replace anything. What you have to do is edit scenarios (best to duplicate the existing scenarios and edit them), and replace the MU. TS Tools is easy for this (search here and Alan Thomson has done a good You Tube video on it). Happy driving!

Tbh TS-tools is essential for replacing rolling stock you DON'T have but the easiest and best way to replace/upgrade stock you DO already have is within the scenario editor itself.

I think he means replacing the default 320 with the AP 321, as Alan Thomson has done in his first look of the route:

Actually, must be another AT video that references the swap: the one above has the 320.

The AP Class 321 multipack contains examples of class 320 (2 liveries), 321 (15 liveries) and 322 (1 livery).

Thanks everyone for your help. I haven't so far ventured into any editing but this may be the time to try! Incidentally, I've just tried to download TSTools but have been prevented by my security suite from accessing the site (agenetools) on the basis that it contains "dangerous content".

Yes, I think that’s a common false positive.

It’s a rather versatile application, but look at the instructions with it, there’s also a tutorial on Steam as well.

Remember to allow it to compile all your scenarios when starting (extract xml iirc, a while since I’ve used it!)

I started trying to swap trains using the in game editor, but with things flipping about and multiple copies being created, I was glad to use TS Tools instead.
