I used to get good 45-60fps in Frankfurt fulda route when i first started TSW5. unfortunately when days go by It tanked to 30fps which was ok considering i installed all my content from TSW4. but now it starts at 30fps and goes down to 10fps in less than a minute and stays there or go even lower to 5fps not only at frankfurt but all along the route where i could get 50-60fps throughout baring the Hanau Hbf. Now I'm literally crying unable to play TSW5 with such low performance of 5-15fps on this route. And other TSW4 content to is affected where i got 60fps spot on now it goes to 30fps. I really need help with this game and optimization. Specs i5-11400H @ 2.70Ghz 32GB Ram @ 3200Mhz RTX 3050 4GB
4 GB of VRAM is not enough for Frankfurt - Fulda route. Do you use some ini file adjustments and/or -DX12 parameter? Also I've noticed something after the first patch. Frankfurt Main was around 34-41 FPS, after the patch it becomes around 27-34 FPS on 4060 Ti.
I used -DX12 and i used to get that performance i mentioned with that same 4GB card. But i'm not getting it now
And not only FRA. I'm getting less performance in TSW4 routes too where i used to get 60fps. now they are at 30fps and goes to 15fps too some times
Try without it. On my 4060 Ti -DX12 eats all 8 GB of VRAM. Without it the game eats around 6,5-7. Also check the temperature of your laptop components while playing, you may have throttling caused by overheating.
VRAM usage is very high on just about any route and removing the 200% scaling doesn't seem to lower it by a whole lot. Here's Vorarlberg using full 12GB on my RX6700xt.
For some reason I'm not even using Full 4GB VRAM. I could hardly use 2.5GB of 4GB available It didn't make any significant improvement. I used to get 12fps in Fulda, now I'm getting 15fps (I used to get 45fps in Fulda when i first installed)
BTW i forgot to say I uninstalled everything now and re-installed only Deluxe edition without San Bernadino route. Still no improvement in game.
How long was Tsw 5 running? Not run Frankfurt yet; however: Do you have afterburner installed? Found similar issue with WCML. Looking at afterburner it was starting to use all ram and started to stutter, lowering the locked frame rate. I restarted the Tsw and it was back to the normal FPS .I'd run a scenario on San B then three hours of WCML and stutters none stop. I posted it on WCML feedback. Perhaps the update did something it shouldn't. Think it's a job for the girls and boys at DTG. It's not you;lots of steam feedback. They changed the memory map for consoles, wonder if it's had a knock on effect for pc, it's a guess though.
I don’t have afterburner. I didn’t overclock anything. My laptop is so bad I couldn’t even overclock my RAM to its full speed
Maybe The Update is what to be blamed. That’s the only thing i did. Update the game. Nothing i have changed it go from 30-45fps to 5-15fps
Issues on other games? If you’ve got a rough benchmark from TSW4 then go back & see if you have the same issue there. I do agree with others though, 4GB of VRAM is really pushing it.
This game definitely needs DX12 optimization and DLSS. Would bring comfort for a lot of players. DTG Alex could you please ask internally?
Yeah 4Gb can be a problem. But for now my problem is I'm not even getting the performance i used to get with all DLC installed too. Like I'm ok with 25-30fps. But I'm basically getting 5-15fps with base game. Which is a drop from 60fps to 6fps. and i'm not even talking about at Frankfurt station. But somewhere in the middle of nowhere also i'm getting less than 15fps. I'm getting 30fps right at start of a service for about 30-60 seconds.
What puzzles me is that you don't have max VRAM usage, don't have max GPU usage, probably also don't have max CPU usage (even single core). Are you sure that a fan didn't die and that CPU or GPU isn't at 100°C? Also at least low-end laptops can overclock their GPUs but you do need a way to cool it.
As you are on a laptop, maybe you accidentally set it to the internal video card instead of the GPU? Not anywhere near my PC at the moment so can’t remember how to check.
This only applies to Frankfurt - Fulda(so far?), other routes are not trying to eat whole 8GB with -DX12.
A quick tip not hardware related. The 2D map uses a lot of frame when you exit while zoomed in. This ended up in 5fps on my pc too. Since you said it worked well in the begin, try to zoom out entirely on the 2d map, then exit the map. This worked for me. The route uses still a lot performance, there are a few section my framerate lowers.
Same here….15-20fps approaching Euston station throat. Prior to an update on Steam yesterday morning I was getting 30-40fps. What gives?
My CPU usage is at 40% and my Ram goes to 60% max and my GPU fluctuates from 80 to 100% at 88°C which doesn’t go up. I only use my Laptop in an AC Room set at 24°c all day.
Running the DC line last night I had a massive FPS drop approaching and passing through Harrow and Wealdstone, literally chopping along at about 5 FPS. This is on Steam/PC. At that point I saved the run and resumed later on, at which point the jerk, jerk continued until I was well to the north of Harrow. I also found the Class 710 starting to make some odd “crunching” noises when under power, both before and after exiting then restarting later. So not sure what’s going on there, could be train related as I passed through Harrow with the Pendolino and 350 on previous runs, never noticed a massive performance hit. Then again, one of the hot fixes might have nerfed something.
Dunno if this is related (to the update) or not but earlier in the day I completed & unlocked the Tier 1 achievements for WCML and then later in the evening they disappeared even tho the boxes to indicate completion are ticked!
They should have just continued with Tsw4, and go with dlcs, big core updates etc. All the new gimmick features eat up the performance for things i dont use.
To be brutally honest, at this point the £54 and 250Gb HD space spent on TSW5 might have been better kept back for MSFS2024. Sadly the former too late to do anything about, but the latter - well slightly easier to attend to.
I also had some issues with my gaming laptop (i5, RTX 4050 mobile 6 GB, 16 GB RAM). I set shader cache in the NVIDIA setup to 10 GB and setup virtual memory as described in the TSW5 starter guide. At least I updated to 32 GB RAM. That brought 5-10 fps with GPU on 100% power and 6 GB of used VRAM. The CPU was bored. But I will sell this computer. Soon my desktop setup will arrive. I think this will be better for gaming.
Sorry guys My bad. I'm being stupid here. I have uninstalled Armoury Crate which is the only way i can change my true power settings. without that my Turbo power mode is hidden. Just now i figured it out and installed it again changed my power settings. which fixed my issue and I'm getting old performance back.
At least we still have this topic. So... Has anyone else noticed a performance drop when driving over platforms? Even on the old routes, like Dresden - Riesa. Nothing like this happens in TSW4. I mean just a regular platforms, not a huge stations. Yeah. I've installed TSW4 with Dresden - Riesa route only and it gives me 75FPS when driving over platforms. TSW5 in the same timetable service gives me 52-57 FPS(like for 2 seconds) when driving over platforms. Maybe passengers?
Older routes are better than 4 for me. New routes took a hit after the last patch.Wcml in I've run the West Coast intensively the last few days.A stutter kicks in,I exit and restart;fixes it again for a while. San Bernardino still okay, with a few extra stutters now and again.Sorry not done anything on Frankfurt yet except cache run.
San B just tends to have the usual rubber banding, even after the initial run so it can’t be shaders compiling. I haven’t actually tried an older TSW4 or earlier route yet to see how they perform.
Had to do an end to end each way before I could run anything from the timetable. Otherwise it just crashed all the time. Seen very few instances of rubber banding on the SB. Above recommended specs 32gb ram.
