I've been working on a route for about four years and decided a while ago to electrify a part of it with third rail. Pretty much the entire route was built using the Settle to Carlisle track rule, but one section was built with the London to Gillingham track rule by a friend. The change of electrification worked fine for the Settle to Carlisle track, but the LG section did not. Exhibit A. The track is marked as third rail but the electrification viewer shows it as being unelectrified. Electric trains work completely fine in free roam, but the scenario editor refuses to send electric trains down it. Changing the track to overhead or fourth rail made it appear electrified, but I didn't check to see if it affected the scenario editor. I tried to fix it after I figured that the connection between the SC and LG track rules caused the issue. I managed to trick TS into having electrified track when I rebuilt the section, but even though the track is now showing as yellow (for third rail electrification) the scenario editor still doesn't allow electric trains down the track. The scenery has been fully built for this section and I really don't want to have to rebuild it to accommodate brand new track. Would changing the LG track rule to SC fix it? If not, is there any way of fixing the electrification without rebuilding the entire section?
Is the Settle to Carlisle track electrified in the route? If working with different track rule, make sure that there is a red triangle obove the track between the track rules, if not properties of the previous section and track rule can be transfered to the next. I have had problems with this building a route with many track rules.
I think the S&C has electrification in the rule because it needs it for Carlisle station I notice none of the track in the picture is electrified - you have to click away for it to change - but it does not change to White? The LG Track Rule does have Third Rail Electrification I wonder if its because the section of track is set to Freight that it does not appear?
I've come across many problems using multiple track rules over the years. From the problem you mentioned to signalling etc... Can't you change the track rule for the entire route with rwtools?
It is, and the electrified section using the SC trackrule works perfectly. It was already set to third rail but was still black. I've tried toggling it back and forth between different electrification settings; only third rail seems to have an issue. Already checked, it doesn't make a difference. Yes, but I have no idea how to and I don't know if it would fix the issue.
Scan thru the route to see if you have a slight gap where the LG track meets the S&C track as that could be the problem It would not stop you doing an electric free roam but the Dispatcher would not allow an electric train If you changed the LG track rule for the route it could affect the London - Gillingham route. It would be easier to swap the LG track for the S&C track
This is the one place where the SC and LG track rules meet. I've separated the track and made sure there are no gaps in the electrification on either side. Diesel trains can be sent down the track just fine. I've selected all the track between the join and the one station on the LG section, and it is all electrified. I'm not sure it's the track itself. If I could change the track rule in the route from LG to SC hopefully it would hopefully make a difference. I doubt it though. I'm so annoyed with my friend for building that section with the LG trackrule - only to have welded rail sounds.
Update. My friend and I fixed it by replacing the track rule and the track. I'm shocked it worked to be honest. Update 2: Now it's stopped working again. Update 3: Now it's fixed again??? For some reason the position of the train's starting point affects whether the track works.
It might be the problem of a gap in the electrification - change your view so it shows if it is electrified or not You should quickly spot any gaps
Could it be something to do with speed limits? I noticed on your screenshot the speed limit boxes are blank.
The boxes were blank because there's a change of speed limit in the selected area. There aren't any. I'm hoping that the weird behaviour is just because of TS having a moment, and because it's been working mostly fine I'm assuming that it is.
I see. Another problem I came across with multiple track rules or trying to sort the mess out, was junctions. I had to delete a couple and re do them to stop pathing issues.
I wish TS' errors had more detail rather than a generic 'it could be this' message. My friend was helping me troubleshoot it last night and we ended up putting down loads of small markers along the broken track and seeing how far an AI train could go. For a little while it did seem like it was the points, but that turned out not to be the issue.
I know what it's like. Sometimes I want to throw the PC out of the window when using the editor. Sometimes you get carried away then realize it's reverted to the original track rule in my case and it's just been easier to delete that entire section of track and start again. I had a couple of bad junctions that I deleted, then for some reason the tracks would no longer align with each other. I hope you find the problem.
I tried to fix the mess of Slade Lane Jn on the Hope Valley Route where it should have been a Diamond Crossing but it was built as a Double Slip but I could not get it to line up properly.
There's a beautiful route on the Workshop - I can't remember the name - that was a massive 60s network perfect for driving pretty much any late steamer or early diesel. So much care and attention was put into the scenery, but every single point on the route was manual. The scenario editor just couldn't get along with it at all, and even if it could, having to change every set of points on a drive would be a nightmare.
