A couple of immediate first impressions. Where are the shadows? I’ve mentioned this a few times already. There is no hint of shadow in the depot. The ambient sound as soon as you step into the cab immediately disappears. Not even a slight whisper remains. I really don’t like moaning, but why?
It does look really detailed. I agree with the shadows, on some screenshots they are clearly there but on others there doesn't seem to be any but we'll see once it's released. I've seen on Rivet's forum that the guards panels are functional which I think is a first for TSW.
A few things I picked up on. - It sounded like the person was walking on grass in the depot/shed - No change in sound when walking over the steel steps to the other side of the train - No shadows in the shed - Ambient sounds were good but as soon as they entered the train even with the door still open the sounds all but disappeared - Lighting was very odd when walking through the train, strange dark patches on the ceiling - Nice to see no AI passengers sat in the train while it’s in the depot, let’s hope this won’t be an issue when we’re playing it
Shadows and lighting of strikingly low quality. It all looks pretty "flat". Perhaps the reason is what probably everyone has already noticed.
Seeing this video clip has raised several questions. I don’t want to be disappointed with it, but in less than 5-minutes of video showcasing the train, there are things that are immediately disappointing. Sigh.
The lighting gave me a headache far worse than Pen Corridor ever did. Also, great soundproofing for such an old unit. He goes in and closes the door and complete silence after it was really noisy outside
I’ll most likely still buy it on launch day, but I must admit I’m not as eager as I was initially after seeing this video. The amount of work that has gone into the train is amazing and the route looks gorgeous. But the sudden loss of sound in the cab and the lack of shadow certainly spoils things.
Do you remember the walkaround video of the BR204, where it was parked in a dark and shadowy place so you couldn’t see the reversed bogie? No such hiding in this one, which is to their credit. As Rivet’s first route and their first train in this new version of TSW, I’m not expecting it to be perfect. Too many people might be thinking that this will release with no issues and be a ‘quality stick’ with which to beat DTG. Let’s be realistic in our expectations and see what the finished release brings. I’m not overly concerned with anything I’ve seen in the video, although there were a lot of little things that were noticeable. The real proof of the pudding will be when we get our hands on it (or watch a live stream).
The outside looked great but the interior of that shed was so barren- needs clutter. The interior lighting needs work too- it’s like a hospital. The insides of the train look too clean but maybe they were a lot cleaner back in the day. But fair play to them- they are being very transparent and not hiding stuff.
I think it looks good enough (it’s their first TSW route). However, the shadows are kinda strange. The Ambient Noise will probably reappear when you open the windows in the cab (if you can)
Shadows can have a big effect on frame rate, while the game would obviously look more realistic, I would be happier to have a fluid, smooth running experience with less stutter an no freezes, freezes on the Bakerloo line kill the realism of the game and are so bloody annoying
You can hear the ambient noises from inside the cab.... Given they are very muffled (maybe too much) but you can clearly hear them. I'm watching with my headset on. I hope the shadows are going to be fixed before release though.
Yes the shadows or lack of them are odd, hopefully they will be there in the game. Otherwise it looked very good to me. I am looking forward to seeing how they have captured the countryside and the route through Ryde onto the pier. The splash screen advertising it in TSW2 certainly looked impressive.
In the comments under the YouTube video. Rivet mentioned the video was 2 weeks old. Do with this piece of information as you please, I just thought it would be fair to consider it.
