Hi I'm a console player looking to get into train simulator classic and was just curious if it had steam routes from early steam? thank you in advance
You'll need to buy a PC as TSC doesn't work on consoles. What do you mean by early steam? There are UK routes set in the 1950s. There's one US route set in the 1860s.
Probably the earliest steam routes on Steam are set in the 1950s the Riviera Line 1950s route and the Woodhead Line in the 50s. Other developers outside of DTG/Steam may have some. Train Simulator: Robinson O4 + Woodhead Route on Steam (steampowered.com) and the Riviera Line Train Simulator: Riviera Line in the Fifties: Exeter - Kingswear Route Add-On on Steam (steampowered.com)
Yes, Clear Creek Railway is one of them. Train Simulator: Clear Creek Narrow Gauge Route Add-On on Steam (steampowered.com)
It’s not on Steam, but Stainmore Summit by Steam Sounds Supreme is a nice challenging steam era route. Outside the UK the New Zealand Midland route is good but the steam locos require a lot of attention to drive including setting up and monitoring the lubrication. Back to the UK, Bossman, Victory and Caledonia Works do good advanced steam locos, some of which can be purchased on Steam. I would have to say driving steam locos in TSC is far more satisfying than the very arcade experience implemented in TSW.
The OP is interested in late Victorian/Edwardian routes in the UK. There are no commercial routes set in these eras, but some rolling stock from the likes of Caledonia Works and Steam Sounds Supreme.
Yes, we know that. Digital Traction is a good place for early steam locos and assets. Digital Traction | DTG Train Simulator Classic Add-ons
So the OP is looking for "Uk steam set in the late 1800's to early 1900's" Which ones on Digital Traction fall in that category?
The County, the J70, the L&Y A Class, the Johnson Spinner, the Dean Goods... most of them really, at least if by "set in" you mean "built in". Personally I've never found Digital Traction's stuff all that great, Victory Works is my personal favourite UK steam developer. Their turn-of-the-century locos are the LNER J21, the GWR 4200, the Stroudley Terriers, the GWR Saint, the GWR Railmotor, the GWR 4500 and 4575 Classes, the GWR 5100 Class, and the Raven Q6. Of course all these locos only come with scenarios for routes set in the 1950s or later, but often that doesn't make much of a difference. In many places the railway of the 1950s was not that much different to the railway of fifty years before.
But watch out for electric station lighting, colour light signals and AWS, these might be present in the 1950s, but not 1900. And clothing and cars!
Yes, some visuals may be different (though none of the 1950s routes have AWS IIRC), but in terms of actual operations/gameplay the differences are far less.
This is one from 1904 plus a few more if you care to look. DT GWR County 4-4-0 Pack | Digital Traction
Have a look on the steam workshop as well, quite a few routes which people have made which are steam era or preserved, here are a few below! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2555064100&searchtext= https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2432141523&searchtext= https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2038610143&searchtext=
