The Old Waverley Route owned by the North British Railway (NBR) ran from Edinburgh to Carlisle and closed down in 1969 due to the beeching acts, this was well before my time. I always look about where the old railway sat and think to myself how brilliant it would be if i could see it today in its former glory. As much as they have rebuilt the line from Edinburgh to Tweedbank, it is nowhere near as spectacular as it was duing the early-mid 1900s. There where also a lot of branches on the main line such as The Peebles Railway, The Selkirk Railway, The Lauder Light Railway and The St Boswells and Reston Railway. It would be great to see the old steam engines up and running again traversing through the valleys, where they once travelled.
