Today I am making a case for the remaster of the West Cornwall Local. This is a route that is in dire need of some TLC but could quite easily become one of the best routes in the game if it is given the love it deserves.

My first thought for improving this route would be utilising all the new layers the game has received since the route initially came out. Class 47s used to run parcel trains and Intercity services, Class 08s were used for shunting around Penzance. The Class 101 features on the timetable as a substitute but I would like it to be worked into a new timetable to provide variety when driving the route.

I would also like to see the inclusion of some new rolling stock, potentially as an add on, similar to how the 380 timetable works on Cathcart. The first train would be an Intercity HST set with the Valenta engine. This variant of the HST is something I’ve seen suggested on the forum a few times and I think it would be great to drive through the Cornish countryside.

Secondly, I’d like to see the Class 122 ‘Bubblecar’ introduced to the game. It would be an interesting train to drive and something that I think would attract many players to the route.

The Class 150 provided with the route is also not groundbreaking and needs a lot of work. It would improve massively with the suspension update and general sound fixes to go with it.

It’s very clear that WCL needs a lot of work on the timetable, scenery and other quality of life improvements to bring it up to modern TSW standards. An issue that annoys me with the route is that it terminates at St Austall, I would like to also propose the extension of the route to Plymouth as that would make more sense as a terminus. The route should also be updated to ToD4 lighting.

I would also like to invite you guys to comment further on improvements you’d like to see and correct me if I have got any information incorrect. This might be the optimist in me talking but let’s hope this could get the wheels in motion for a better route!

As someone told me earlier on a feedback thread regarding Rivet content, there’s more chance of seeing a flying pig than any of rivet games content being polished up!

    Hope this helps.

I can’t see this ever happening.

Nice though it would be, the route would be better rebuilt from scratch (maybe the stations could be reused) and extended to a more logical end point. I can’t see Rivet doing that as they CBA to execute a simple speed limit fix on the St Ives branch and their C grade route building team now seem to be DTG’s outsourced arm for their UK projects. In an ideal world we would get the complete Cornish main line from Plymouth to Penzance along with all the branch lines.

The addition of the Falmouth branch is a absolute must. Unfathomable as to why it was not included to begin with. This route is sadly lacking so far behind anything else that it is almost unacceptable. Various errors in speed limits and other aspects. This shouldn't be so much a request to Rivet, but more of a demand. The following types are all notable in their absence...

    Class 43 HST Valenta
    Class 50
Class 108 (better choice than the 101)
    Class 122

These as well as massive scenery enhancements across the route are a must and would potentially make this a superbly entertaining route. Come on Rivet, finally bite the bullet and prove yourself to be a developer to trust going forward. Surely all of the negative attention to this point is embarrassing to the whole company.

Include a BR Blue/Grey livery for a Valenta HST and it could layer onto WCML Over Shap also.

No chance. Rivet would have to do this as it's their route. Have they ever remastered a route before? Nope.
I'd love to see it happen though, but you'd have more chance winnning the lottery than Rivet stepping up to the plate.

I am sure it was stated that the way this route was developed, in contrast with the way todays routes are now done, the route would need to be started from scratch to bring it to a standard that players now expect.
