Another route from Birmingham along the WCML. This route offers varied and historic scenery from the hills of the west midlands and Cheshire to the dense and historic urban suburbs of Mersey side. Stats: Route length - 88 Miles Stations - 20 Major stations - Birmingham N Street, Wolverhampton, Stafford, Crewe, Liverpool L Street Base service layer - AWC Class 390, LNWR 350, and GBRF/ EWS 66 Possible playable layers - NT Class 323 Liverpool - Edge Hill (to Manchester), EMR Class 158 Liverpool - Liverpool South Parkway (to Manchester via Warrington) Possible AI layers - NT Class 323 Crewe - Manchester, AWC Class 390 London - Crewe (to Wigan & beyond) Points of interest: Running beside the canals of Birmingham, highspeed section between Wolverhampton & Crewe, Weaver Junction, Edge Hill (one of oldest stations in the world still in regular use) + Liverpool cutting.
Brilliant suggestion! I'd love this route! Bring on the "wee wee" desiros! XD Love the pendolino in Avanti livery aswell!
Pendos, desires, avanti, Freightliner, all amazing routes to me! It think if we get this we could also get the North and West London Line to connect the BML, GWML, WCML, SEHS and multiple other mainlines for some pretty intensely long freight routes, e.g. Newhaven - Acton
If we get a TPE 802 at any stage, it would be nice to see an AI layer of that at Liverpool. Similarly maybe the WMR 323 at BHM?
Also was just thinking - if we get XC at any stage we could have a voyager layer between the BHM -> Crewe section and certainly lots of XC AI at BHM. Also some Avanti voyagers on the same section of the route.
Good idea, I would like to see a modern WCML within TSW since we have the ECML already represented This sounds like an ideal route plus it traverses the Spirit of Steam route between Crewe and Liverpool Lime Street in game already
Would be better if it ran from Rugby, as you'd get 2 routes technically for your money, as you'd get the Trent Valley line through Nuneaton to Stafford, as well as the Birmingham bit.
I think Rugby would an odd start and end point though, yeah you’d get the Trent valley route but I think that section would do nothing but make this route even more unlikely unfortunately.
Hardly any freight runs through Birmingham due to the constraints. Most intermodal, aggregate and car train freight goes via the Trent Valley line to Stafford, so it's not an odd starting point to be honest.
Would be excellent. A good, long run, brings a bit of life to Birmingham New Street too. And most eras give us interesting traction. Choose from Classes 81-87 & 90 Intercity Locos, EMUS 304, 309, 310, 312, 321, 323, 325, 350, 370, 390, 730, 805 and those awful Voyager things too.
