Anyone else got the realtime weather mod off Train sim community website? Seems decent so far. Surprised to see it to be honest considering some have said it needs to be built into the game and would only happen if put in from the start.....?
For it to be a core feature DTG are willing to support and develop, it would need to be built into the game.
I can understand that DTG is shying away from such a feature. If you develop this for commercial reasons it probably gets way more complicated. The mod is able to use freely available APIs, as there is no money involved. I do like the idea, though. I am also using this mod and are eagerly waiting for historical data to be implemented. What really surprised me was the fact that someone managed to actually get the location data out of the game in real time. Something I did not know was possible and would be needed to develop external stuff like automatic announcements or an EBuLa… EDIT: just in case people are wondering what we are talking about: https://www.trainsimcommunity.com/mods/c3-train-sim-world/c109-other/i5712-real-weather-sync
Yes indeed, my point being for this thread as well as pointing out the existence of it is that it's something many have asked for while DTG go for PR stunts a modder has managed it. Wonder now if random routing can be done by the modding community?
I downloaded it yesterday and plan to test it/implement it in the next couple of days. Really looking forward to that, one of the top requested optional things AFAIK
Just tested, very nice addition, many thanks to the author. Just tested in Manchester area, overcast with light drizzle - seems correct?
Might give this a try, I don't use dynamic weather as it's too predictable and bugged, so I set weather as it is currently outside. Has anyone noticed any hit on performance?
No hit on performance but it seems bugged for now as it's always raining/snowing (regarding a very little proportion) on every route I have. I've checked with GodMode, and the intensity is always the same (very low). I've also tried without GodMode to see if this mod was the problem (that's the only one i use). Same problem. That's a shame as this mod seems awesome!
I went to install it but the option of Real Weather doesn't show, I've exited and reloaded a couple of times, but nothing! I wonder if it clashes with the Auto Announcer as that also uses ue4ss
Its nearly always raining when forecast for area says cloudy or overcast, great mod mind hopefully can see some improvements.
Does anyone know if it works smoothly with GodMode? Like, if it starts raining or snowing, can you turn the rain and snow off via GodMode? I realize it may update 15 min later and start raining again when it’s not supposed to, but can GodMode turn this off? Or will it override whatever weather/environmental settings you put in GodMode?
I’ve confirmed GodMode will allow you to get rid of the rain/snow. Not sure if it will come back after 15 min when it reloads the weather though. Have to test further. I will say, I haven’t gotten it to not load in rain/snow. It does every single time regardless of current weather conditions.
Just got both pieces installed and will try later today. Guess I will do current since I always run today. Just occurred to me that I need to run historic. I live in the eatern US so if I am playing the game at 2 pm local its now 7 pm in London. Running a 10:30 am service out of Euston on the WCML is now historic.
Well, the game crashes almost immediately and no UE crash report comes up. I have installed the ue4SS folder and dwmapi.dll into the binary folder, then put the TSWWeatherMod folder into the ue4SS folder. Now I am running with Rail driver as well as other mods, so I do not know. Once I removed it all, games run fine.
Doesn’t look like you’ve read the instructions correctly off the top of my head, that folder isn’t right. The mod works just fine, I’d suggest re-installing and do so with the instructions in front of you.
I get a crash usually at the end of a run, once or twice its crashed when the weather has been implemented.
I briefly worked with the developer via Discord to track down the issue with the rain always happening regardless of the weather conditions. He provided a fix which I tested and confirmed the bug was fixed. I assume he uploaded this fix to the mod. I can confirm I no longer have the issue with it always raining. GodMode would allow you to turn off the rain but every time it updated the live weather, the rain returned. So every 10-15 min. Glad to see this has been fixed.
When I finally worked out how to install it (there are two WindowsNoEditor folders on my system and just my luck the one I saved to quick access was the wrong one on this occasion) it seems to work. I just hope its stable because its got to be a significant improvement over Dynamic weather which is pretty awful in my opinion.
The only issue I see right now is the mod causing a crash to desktop and log dump every single time you exit to the main menu. Once you close a session to the main menu, TSW crashes every time.
It's a great mod, useful and entertaining. My only quibble is that there can be quite a jump in weather conditions when it updates (every 5 mins) - I guess this is down to the granularity of the underlying data.
Its only in beta so I have a feeling this great mod will become a lot more refined with additional updates
I think that unfortunately (or fortunately) the mod isn’t the issue. UE4SS (which the mod needs to work) seems to be hellishly unstable and the crashes with the weather mod are virtually identical to the way the auto-announcer mod crashes which, you guessed it, also uses UE4SS. Both those mods are so good I can’t do without them personally so put up with the crashing, but it is an absolute pain in the backside. If a solution could be found to stop it happening it would be most welcome.
When you finish a service and return to the main menu it always crashes with a ‘crash dump’ window, and as soon as you click ‘ok’ it force closes the game. It’s not the mod or the game crashing, it’s UE4SS but the problem is it takes the game with it.
The mod is fantastic but beside the crash at the end of a service it also has extremely jarring transition between weather patterns. I had fully or partially clouded sky transition to clear or back instantly and it did not look good at all. If the author could put a delay where the could amount or precipitation are raised or lowered over a set period of time let's say 30-60 seconds when the weather updates instead of instantly, it would make everything much better
The sudden change can be quite jarring. I hope slow transitions are possible, it would be a lot better.
After the update today this mod seems to have stopped working for me. New install did not solve it, unfortunately. Got quite used using this mod (even though it never worked on MITT), hence, would be interested to get this working again. Any tips?
Last update to the Weather mod was around one month ago with the author saying an update was in pipeline on the comments section of the download. The crash was quite annoying and I came close to uninstalling despite it being a great mod as had to restart TSW everytime with it.
Since it's the second time I'm reading this ... change your game to use "windows borderless" and the game won't crash, when this "message box" appears. I only see this message box with the error after closing the game (and I did multiple runs using this mod in one session without having to restart every time)
I run in Windows Borderless. The game crashes if I press the window stating the crash. Also once it's crash messaged the game won't run live weather even if chosen when starting another train or loading another route.
Yes, since the last sim update something seems to have changed and all mods using this tech have stopped working. I know that DTG is preparing for the arrival of their own API. No idea if this is related to this in any way and sadly the only people who know no longer seem to read the forums to answer this. Time will tell… or maybe one of the modders will find out eventually.
Nope, not for me… But I seem to remember that some people reported crashes when it was still working, two game patches ago.
It’s not game patches that are breaking this mod, it’s UE4SS. It’s always been hellishly unstable and the announcement mod (which also used it) used to crash the game on returning to the menu. The person responsible for the mod needs to sort out whatever the issue is, as a great idea and mod is being let down by UE4SS (which is out of the control of the person that made the mod).
Oke i figured it out Using the UE4SS from this mod https://www.trainsimcommunity.com/m...uncements/i4704-automatic-train-announcements makes the weather mode not only work flawless but also prevent any crashing it had before at end of the scenario. I guess the UE4SS implementation is better in the announcer mode.
That’s interesting. So you haven’t installed the announcement mod, just used UE4SS from that version? If you install both mods it causes the game to crash, or at least it used to
