I have an issue with TSW 5 which is very weird..

The other day (I can’t remember when) I loaded up TSW5 and attempted to drive a Class 142 in timetable mode from Milton Keynes to Euston but after checking my route before departing Milton Keynes, the game wouldn’t let me out of the 2D map.

Pressing ‘B’ did nothing nor the other button associated with opening the 2D Map. I had to restart my console which caused some other non-related issues and now whenever I load up TSW5, the loading screen is on for a few seconds before fading to black and then nothing.

Is this an issue with my game or the console?

I’m playing on Xbox Series S

With the Xbox 1X a hard reset sometimes works and everything is all okay, not sure of series X or S and sometimes pressing holding power button til it turns off, then unplugging the power cord for ten minutes, also if there is a power brick, and you can unplug it's power cord while the consol sits unpowered. This is to dissipate the built-up power held in capacitors. Again not having either of the newest units I'm unsure.

Ok thanks anyway.. I’ll try going the classic route and turning it off and on at the plug

Sorry if this is a silly question, but couldn't you have closed TSW from the guide?

Quick update - that method has worked

Pressing the Xbox button to go into the guide and closing the game that way by pressing the Menu button, rather than turning off the system completely.

    Good to hear have fun.

You are correct, pressing the X button to bring up the Xbox home menu options would and could be an option, there are times when that won't work, I have many times had to do that, a similar issue happened where my controller was not letting me control the box, and had to press and hold the power button on the box til it shut down then wait a few and I could use the X button the controller to boot up the box. It is a pain in the bum and sometimes doing a hard reset by doing what I suggested clears things up, this one option comes from MS. And it is one reason why I am glad to have a decent PC again.

To be fair the OP did not describe what type of crash it was. It could be a very hard crash that would need the console to be restarted, but the way I read it made it seem like a softlock.
