I have never come across this before but what is happening is the following.

1 I boot up the game and select any type of drive------- everything looks fine , shadows in place, dynamic lighting is working, everything just looks as it should.

2 I then end or finish the session, go to the menu and select anyother route or even just replay the same route or scenario ----- and its like the suns gone in and everythings turned to dull.. Its almost like the shaders are in place on the models (as its not like turning dynamic lighting off) but somone just turned the light sources off.

3 If i shut down and restart TS then once again only the first session behaves correctly

That happens when driving a route that uses Kuju\RailSimulatorUS\TimeOfDay files which use an incompatible skydome.

    Cajon Pass for example.

Best to swap the ToD files for these routes.

Beside Spikee's valid suggestion, historically I find it best to only ever play one scenario per game start.

Yes, it invalidates short scenarios, in that I might play five minutes that day. North Jersey Coast Line, hello!
I didn't check recently, but previously the game did preserve a lot of state between runs. The most noticeable example was, when after running a rainy scenario with an HST from A to B, I started a clear skies scenario from B to A, same train, and my windshield was wet.
But I also came across situations where after driving some American train (likely with braking scripts), my HST would be hissing continuously, constantly flip-flopping between 0.1 and 0.3 psi brake pressure. It was also a bit slower.
Now the funny element is that during free roams, the game seems to do a good job to clear loco state. Even just switching cabs (or pressing camera 5), the windshield clears.

Which leads to my repeat suggestion, if DTG reads this - having menus outside the game is perfectly viable. It could also make the game a lot faster as it wouldn't have to load.

Ah that explains it - it was indeed on Cajon Pass I was noticing it.

Now as for swapping the Time of Day files I wouldn't no where to start.. lol
