Can you imagine you mess up a route so bad that people still complain to this very day, killing your reputation? Well rivet, looks like we reached this point. We all know the disaster of WCL, so instead I propose a rather unfortunate redo to the route: not a remaster. WEST CORNWALL MAINLINE: PENZANCE - PLYMOUTH Cornish_Main_Line by Migsithepigsi posted Aug 27, 2024 at 9:13 AM First of all, I'd rather not a remaster due to the severe state of it, but a 2.0 to get the actual ideal route would be appreciated. Also it would be much better if a different party, whether DTG or JT but not Rivet were to do this. The line carries itself from the famous southwestern Terminus of Penzance, along what should be beautiful scenery of Cornwall, but nope Rivet messed it up significantly. The St Ives branch can still be featured due to it's short length. Crossing from Cornwall into Devon is the iconic Royal Albert Bridge, but nope not even that is featured because Rivet decided to cut short the route at.... ST AUSTELL??? So first they mess up the route some people wished for, then the scenery.... surely it can't get any worse? Yes it can. Somehow Rivet messed up the class 150..... and there was a massive opportunity missed to include the class 43 as a layer...
This probably belongs in Suggestions though 100% agree with the OP. Sadly there seems little likelihood of anyone revisiting an area already partly done. Our best hope is that DTG are using the 150/2 for their Cardiff City route, gut out and rebuild the sound/physics from the ground up and back port the changes to WCL.
Let's not forget that they also left out the Falmouth branch. In summary, a complete rebuild from Penzance to Plymouth, St Ives and Falmouth with a new/better 150/2 and a Valenta HST. If Rivet cannot be persuaded, then perhaps another developer will have a go as said above. DTG carry ultimate responsibility for allowing this to be released in such a state and should give Rivet a ultimatum...fix it or it gets dropped from sale.
I'd be all for a 2.0 for this route so long as it;s not full price for existing owners like the LIRR route. Every 2.0 route should be minimum 50% off for existing owners. But I fully agree this route needs an extension to Plymouth. An updated locomotive too. the HST with Valenta engines in Intercity colours. for the services to London
If its a full rebuild, why should it be discounted? Rebuilding the route is basically making it from scratch.
It should be discounted because we already have paid once for a sub par product. Although Rivet, like other companies, need to make money, this is no excuse whatsoever for the shocking state of this product and as CUSTOMERS we deserve better. The only way that a discount could be ignored is if a different developer has a go at it.
Whilst I don't dispute the current WCL isn't up to standard, its ridiculous to expect a discount if it is essentially rebuilt from scratch, no matter the developer.
I wouldn't mind an extension all the way to Plymouth, but as one go it's quite a long drive for one sitting. IMO West Cornwall Local should have been kept closer to its namesake and extended to Falmouth originally instead of going across to St Austell. Lots of short end-to-end runs to be had there with the Class 150 (which is the perfect train for such runs).
79 miles from Penzance to Plymouth is good enough.... so idk about that extra stretch unless it had a lot of services back then
I’d gladly pay full price for a full rebuild by another dev. I really looked forward to getting this when it was released but quickly became disillusioned after a few runs on it. It now currently resides in the ‘where are they now’ files.
LIRR 2.0 wasn't a "complete rebuild" it was new textures and a branch line with a new EMU and timetable. yet as someone who has already owned the original LIRR route since it came out... I'm still forced to pay £30 for 1 new train and 12 miles of track. No doubt if any other route received the same treatment as in new textures and a short extension those would be charged at £30 for existing players... Christ we're not talking about extending the GWML in game from Reading to Bristol. In which case thats 70 miles of new track
Agreed. I have been considering un-installing the WCL route but that would mean I would no longer have the Sea Cow & Turbot wagons. I'm thankful that Rivet include the Class 50 now..
this is literally what i've been saying for years.. i cannot for the life of me understand how they thought adding St Austell instead of Falmouth makes any sense. if it was up to me, the route would have been Penzance - Truro, with both St Ives and Falmouth branches. and that is more than achievable, and actually less mileage than the current offering. this route was supposed to be 'west cornwall local' so why it covered St Austell instead of Falmouth is just wrong in my view.. plus with the class 150 being the main traction it is just perfect for running Truro to Falmouth trips. if it had the falmouth branch included i might still be driving this route, but the reality is i haven't touched it in 2 years, and without meaning to sound harsh the same goes for Rivet there too
Jasper_Rivet I am sure you are aware of all the positive feedback DTG are receiving for their route remasters. Please consider an overhaul of your West Cornwall Local DLC. I feel strongly this would be of great benefit to Rivet's reputation. My suggestion would be to provide the route and scenery as a complimentary upgrade for all existing owners and release an Intercity Swallow liveried Valenta powered HST with a new timetable as a paid DLC along side the upgrade, exactly as the way Cathcart Circle Line remastered and the Scotrail Class 380 was delivered. I am sure this will generate you a lot of good will and a lot of sales.
