Is this the most absolute worst DLC ? Your thoughts and which are your prefered before i wast anymore money...
West Somerset, after the upgrade, is absolutely gorgeous. Of course if you don't like vintage trains then it isn't the sort of thing you would like; and even I will admit that 25 mph is kind of poky, even with all that great scenery to look at. (I must confess, I never bought the Class 52 because running that thoroughbred slow just feels wrong)
No not at all. It's not one of the best routes, but not the worst either. If we keep bugs and generally poor development asside and just judge the real reference i think the worst is Cane Creek. Yeah the landscape is quite nice but get's boring rather quickly, you could overtake the trains on a bike and there's just one type of service. Just boring throughout. If we include poor developed routes we may find something even worse, but at least these route have still the potential to be good (even if they probably won't be that).
It's a lovely route, but as noted the 25 MPH speed limit can make even the gorgeous remake a bit tedious, especially on the coastal stretch where there are also numerous lower restrictions at the various level crossings. Certainly not the worst route in TSW, by far. Edit: Most of the "boring" routes would be less so if we had more than one save slot, so you don't have to go back to the same route and scenario to finish it before starting another, that also might need saving.
You have to be kidding me, right? Please tell me this is a late April Fools. To give you a serious answer, what other historic UK content do you have? The blue diesels of NTP? The steam engines of Peak Forest specifically? If you have the substitutions and layers available, then after the update that WSR received I would say it is actually one of the best routes the game has ever seen. That's if you're not bothered by being limited to a maximum of 25mph for the whole run, because that's UK law on a heritage railway.
You've made a claim without any justification and examples. Applying Hitchens' Razor, I dismiss it and consider your post troll bait.
There are ways to make it a bit more enjoyable. Try to choose the lower powered locomotive's like the class 31 so you use the higher power notches. I don't have TSW 4 so can't comment on the update but it sounds like you could have some fun shunting around in free roam. I would have far preferred that they built it when it was a mainline railway, either in GWR or BR. Taking holiday trains inbetween pick-up goods or local services at decent speeds would have been great fun over the considerable gradients.
I just play West Somerset Railway when I am in the mood for some relaxed driving it is sure is in my top 10 of all the routes
I've always enjoyed WSR despite the grueling speed limits, but after the facelift I'd say it's now in my Top Five. You just gotta be in the mood for it I guess.
It would really have benefitted too had DTG used it as the steam test bed and made a Pannier tank and Hall for the line, along with some ex GWR coaching stock.
But if they want to keep it realistic the wsr only has mk1s in real life if you want gwr stock go to the svr
I wouldn't call this route terrible. It certainly isn't the worst route in tsw especially after the upgrade. If you are not into vintage trains, then this route isn't going to be for you.
It is a good route. I still can't get the Flying Scotsman to work on the route. All other steam engines work on the route. The worst route has to be the existing LIRR.
The problem with WSR is that driving the historic diesels on it is boring as sin because with the exception of the 101 they're all grossly overpowered for it and of course driving steam on it is a nightmare because steam is unfinished.
Believe me, there is nothing overpowered about a Gronk hauling five Mk 1s up a 1+% grade and trying to keep to a schedule. The 20 doesn't have an easy time of it either.
Hi, This route is lovely and the update made it even better. Yes it's slow but I find it enjoyable. My only regret so far is that the Class 33, which I really liked driving, doesn't cope well with the new lighting : the gauges now have visible artifacts and the windows have a foggy aspect as if they lacked transparency. Weird.
Thanks everyone for your replies some made me think, some made me giggle, i will learn to love all the routes, even the 25 mph ones.. Thanks again..
This route I know well and DTG have done an absolutely fabulous job of replicating it in the game. It’s now a very professional design and full congratulations to the Matt and the DTG team for making this wonderful heritage line so accurately designed for TSW4. It’s absolutely stunning and amazing and if you haven’t bought it yet, what are you waiting for.
It's a fantastic route with a variety of rolling stock, with the free upgrades it feels so much more alive. I really enjoy it.
